Before the words were even out of his mouth, Trevor slapped Chase across the face.

Furious at his son’s failings, Trevor scolded him. “You bastard! You helped an outsider bully your own sister. I haven’t even punished you, and now you dare to lecture me? Do I need an idiot like you to tell me what to do? This is the kind of bad habit you’ve picked up from Faye spoiling you. Don’t think I don’t know how you bully your sister behind my back. Making you go and reflect is letting you off easy.”
He truly hadn’t expected this side of Chase. Now that his head was clearer, the sight of Yvonne’s constant crying just irritated him more and more.
His face darkened, and he sneered at Yvonne. “Cry, cry, cry. All you know how to do is cry. It’s like you’re at a funeral. Don’t you think that’s bad luck? The results weren’t even out, and you were already parading around like you’d won, getting your brothers to give you everything. The second there’s trouble, all you do is weep. What kind of behavior is that?”
Yvonne was speechless. She didn’t understand what had gotten into Trevor. Why was he suddenly defending Tracy? She was furious.
Chase, just as defiant, sneered, “Dad, what did Tracy do to you? Why are you suddenly on her side?”
He truly couldn’t understand it. It was one thing for outsiders to side with Tracy, but why was his own father suddenly defending her? The more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
“Shut up!” Trevor’s face darkened. “Have I been too lenient with you? Spoiled you so rotten you think you’re untouchable?”
He had always turned a blind eye to Chase’s behavior, but now his head was clearer. He was starting to see things differently. Yvonne wanted first place, so she used Chase as her weapon. And Chase was too stupid to even realize it. How had he raised such a disappointing son?
Faye came over and pulled Chase’s arm. “Chase, your father is furious. You should stop talking.”
Chase pressed his lips together, defiant. But seeing how genuinely angry Trevor was, he didn’t dare to provoke him further.
Yvonne looked at Trevor, her eyes red. “Dad, please don’t blame Chase. I’ll apologize to Tracy for him. Please don’t be angry, okay? You know what his temper is like. Please stop scolding him. I can apologize in his place.”
She had no desire to apologize to Tracy, but the situation left her no other choice.

fall through. So what if she won first place? She still won’t get into the national department. No matter what tricks she plays, she can’t fight against real power.
“Yvonne, you don’t have to humiliate yourself like this,” Chase snorted. “Who the hell does Tracy think she is, demanding an apology from us? Does she even deserve one?”
The words were barely out of his mouth before Trevor slapped him again, his face a mask of disappointment.
Trevor’s voice was deep and angry. “Shut up! You’re the one who caused this entire mess. If you hadn’t run to Cloud University to make a scene, would any of this have happened? Do you have any idea how much damage you’ve done to the Xander family? And even now, you feel no remorse. You are a bitter disappointment.”
He truly couldn’t believe a good kid could be raised this way. It seemed he needed to re- evaluate the actions of Yvonne and her mother. As the saying goes, to spoil the child is to destroy the child. Faye had always coddled them, and this was the result. If it weren’t for the fact that Faye had always been good to Jared and Chase, and that she herself was generally obedient, he would have replaced her long ago.
After all these years, he had grown tired of her act. Combined with his friend’s warning, he was beginning to realize that Faye and her daughter were not good people. He had made a mistake.
Chase clutched his stinging face, his teeth grinding. “Dad, this is obviously Tracy’s fault! Why do you keep hitting me? If she hadn’t taken that exam, none of this would have happened! She ran to Grandma and tattled, which got Jared slapped, but you don’t blame her. You blame me! How can you be so unfair? Tracy is a jinx! Disaster follows her everywhere. And you still want to bring her back? What are you thinking?”
He was furious from being slapped twice, his chest heaving. He was now convinced: Tracy was a curse on their family.
Tracy watched this all with cold detachment. “Did you invite me here just to watch this pathetic play? Are you done? Because if you are, I’m leaving. I have no interest in watching this.”
If I didn’t have something they wanted, and if their arrogance hadn’t gotten them into so much trouble…
