Chapter 232 The Root of the Hatred

Lunched
Admit it? Never. Even if the evidence was right in front of them, so what? They had plenty of ways to dodge responsibility.
Chase backed Faye up. “Tracy, you’re the one who’s always demanding evidence, right? Why doesn’t that apply to you? You’re framing Madam Faye and Yvonne. If you can’t produce any proof today, you will apologize to them. This isn’t over.”
The mere thought of how Tracy had thrown his family into chaos made him want to beat her senseless. If it weren’t for Tracy, he and Yvonne wouldn’t have been humiliated. He wouldn’t have been hit, and Yvonne wouldn’t have been scolded by his dad. This was all Tracy’s fault.
‘You really are Yvonne’s loyal dog,” Tracy sneered. “Sometimes, I truly don’t understand why you protect her to such an obsessive degree, while you despise me. I don’t recall ever doing anything to hurt you. And yet, as my biological brother, you still blindly side with this mother and daughter, even when the facts are right in front of you. Don’t you find that ridiculous?”
Even Jared and Trevor had the sense to shut up and go verify the facts. But Chase was still here, barking. She knew Chase disliked her, but this level of hatred was something else. There had to be a reason.
Chase smirked. “You want to know why? That year I fell off the mountain… you saw me, but you didn’t help. Do you know that because you left me for dead, I almost had to have my leg amputated? Tracy, you’re a monster who wouldn’t even save her own brother. Why should you deserve any of our affection?”
He paused, then continued, “You’re jealous that we favor Yvonne, but have you ever thought about why? Yvonne has done so much for me and Jaded. But you? What have you ever done? All you do is compete with Yvonne and bully her. How could we possibly ever like you?”
Recalling the incident, Chase’s eyes turned red. He was only ten. He had been in so much pain, completely helpless. When he saw Tracy, he thought she would save him. But she just stared, terrified, and then ran away. He had been devastated. Later, Yvonne found him and ran to get the family, who rushed him to the hospital. The doctor said if he had been brought in any later, they would have had to amputate. That was the moment his prejudice against Tracy was born.
Tracy didn’t answer Chase. Instead, she looked at Trevor. “Was it really Yvonne who came and got you? Is that what you told Chase?”
She had only been eight years old. She was terrified when she saw him hurt and ran to find the adults. She’d been running so fast that she fell several times and had nearly fallen off a cliff. Because she was injured, she didn’t go back with them. But she never imagined that Chase thought Yvonne had saved him- and that he had hated her for it all these years.
The way Trevor looked at Yvonne changed completely. “We were in such a panic… we didn’t say anything. I just assumed Yvonne and Faye would explain it to him. I never knew this…. Tracy, I’m sorry. This is my fault. It was my oversight. Yvonne, it was Tracy who nearly fell off a cliff trying to get help for Chase. How could you let him believe you saved him?”
He was just busy; it didn’t mean he didn’t care.
Chase stared at Yvonne in disbelief. “Yvonne… is what Dad just said true?”

Yvonne’s face went white, but she quickly recovered. “Chase, I did come and get Mom and Dad! You saw me! I was only seven, and I was terrified, too. But I never said I was the one who saved you! You just assumed it was me. It was… it was Tracy who ran to them and told them you were hurt.”
She couldn’t believe this was all coming out now. If Trevor hadn’t exposed the truth, she never would have been foolish enough to admit it.
It was true. Disaster followed Tracy everywhere. She had to find a way to make Tracy disappear from Northport, permanently.
Now that Tracy knew their secret, she couldn’t be allowed to live. If Tracy remained, she would eventually expose their identity, and they would lose everything. No! She would not let that happen!
Chase stumbled back, a cold, broken laugh escaping him. “You didn’t admit it… but you never denied it either. If you hadn’t misled me, how could I have… how could I have hurt my own sister… this much?”
