Chandler wanted to see Tracy hit rock bottom. He wanted her to crawl back and beg for their help; once she was broken, he was sure she’d go right back to being his loyal little shadow.
Lately, Tracy had been pushing her luck way too far. She’d even managed to get his sister locked up, and she was still rotting in a cell.
That was a debt he intended to settle in full.
Jared nodded, backing Chandler up. “Yeah, Vector Tech is a sinking ship. That leaves us as the only option for the Minister. We owe a lot of this to Yvonne. Without her work on the project, we wouldn’t be anywhere near a launch.”
Yvonne offered a modest, practiced smile. “It was a team effort. I can’t take all the credit.”
Then, shifting gears, she added, “By the way, I just saw Tracy and Sam. I doubt they’re even on the guest list. Trying to crash a Quinn party is a bold move. It’s probably going to blow up in their faces.”
Jared felt a wave of disgust. She was doing it again. She was trying to bait him into attacking Tracy.
He couldn’t believe he’d never noticed how manipulative she actually was.
“That’s their problem,” Jared said flatly. “It has nothing to do with us. Drop it.”
Now that he knew the truth, looking at Yvonne was almost unbearable. Every word out of her mouth was a dig at Tracy; it was chilling to realize how deep her malice went.
The thought of how much they had hurt their own sister for the sake of this fraud made his chest tight. They had treated Yvonne like gold, yet she was the one who had cracked Chase’s skull. The very brother who doted on her. How could she be so heartless?
She was always an imposter, and would not hesitate to do anything to protect her own agenda.
Yvonne bit her lip.
She hadn’t expected Jared to shut her down like that. Usually, he’d be the first one to start making plans to humiliate Tracy.
Did he find out something? Why is he acting like this?
Something was definitely off.
She walked over and took Jared’s hand. “What’s wrong? Did someone say something to you? Talk to me, I can explain.”
The someone she was referring to was obviously Tracy. It was the elephant in the room.
Jared looked at her and calmly pulled his hand away. “What exactly are you expecting people to tell me?”
Tracy had been right. Yvonne was an expert at shifting blame without so much as a flinch.

He realized now that he’d been completely wrong about her. The last time the company hit a wall, it was Yvonne’s arrogance that caused the mess. Yet she’d walked away clean, pinning it on Tracy or Chase. She was a master at using everyone else as a shield.
Yvonne went quiet.
She couldn’t put her finger on it, but Jared felt like a different person. Was she just being paranoid, or did he really know the truth?
Suddenly, Chandler spoke up. “Professor Morten is here. We should head over and ask him about those technical issues.”
At the mention of Morten, Yvonne’s eyes lit up. She tucked her arm back into Chandler’s and hurried toward the entrance.
“Professor Morten, hello,” Yvonne said, her voice dripping with grace. “I’m Yvonne from Xander Corp. We’ve met before.”
“We were hoping to pick your brain about a few things.”
Morten didn’t even look at her. “I’m busy.”
He was only here because he was friends with the Quinn patriarch, and he’d specifically returned to Northport for Tracy. He knew all about what this woman had done-how she’d tried to ruin his brightest student.
The nerve it took for her to walk up and ask for his help was staggering. It was pure delusion.
Yvonne stood there, stunned by the rejection. She followed him anyway. “Professor Morten, please, just a few minutes. That’s all we need!”
Morten stopped and looked at her like she was a moron. “And who are you to ask for my time? You aren’t my student. Why would I waste my energy on your problems?”
Yvonne turned bright red.
To be rejected twice in a row was humiliating enough, but when she saw Morten walk straight over to Tracy, her blood boiled.
Tracy. It’s always Tracy! Why was she everywhere? The woman she had spent years keeping under her thumb was now standing above her. It was intolerable.
She wasn’t going to let this stand.
Julie stood in the middle of the crowd, soaking in the attention. Her face was starting to ache from all the fake smiling.
She looked toward Yvonne, her expression one of pure contempt. That was he, the bastard child her father had fathered during his affair.
