Chapter 295 Retribution

Tracy took a deep breath. “I told you the only apology I’ll accept is when you go through everything my mom and I went through. While you were living it up as the head of the Xander family, my mom and I were starving. While you were coddling Yvonne and her mother, we were getting harassed and bullied. You didn’t even show up for my mother’s funeral because you were too busy catering to them. How am I supposed to forgive that?”
Thinking about the past left a bitter taste in her mouth, but she took comfort in the fact that it was over. She had a new life now.
There was a long silence on the other end, followed by the sound of a muffled sob. Finally, Trevor managed a single word. “Sorry.”
“I hate that word. Don’t call me again.”
She hung up and stared at the ceiling, but sleep was out of the question now. She got out of bed, washed up, and headed to the kitchen. On the table, she found a glass of milk and a sandwich.
There was a note under the glass: “Don’t forget to eat breakfast.”
Tracy couldn’t help but smile. It felt good to have someone looking out for her. This was what being happy actually felt like.
Just as she finished eating, Sean called. “Are you up?”
Tracy rinsed her glass in the sink. “Yeah. I just finished breakfast.”
She heard the sound of papers rustling on his end. “Good. What are your plans for the day?”
“I was going to sleep all day, but I can’t get back to sleep after that phone call.”
She’d been in a great mood after seeing Yvonne and her mother get hauled off, but Trevor’s call had ruined it. It was a hell of a way to start a Saturday.
“The Xanders called you?”
Tracy wondered if he had a tracker on her phone. He seemed to know everything she did.
“Yeah,” she admitted. “But it was just an apology. Nothing I can’t handle. Anyway, what do you want for lunch? I’m going to the store in a bit, and I’ll bring you something.”
Sean went quiet for a second. She could practically hear the smirk in his voice. “I want you.”

Chapter 295 Retribution
After the call ended, Trevor set his phone down. Jared immediately leaned in.
“Well? What did she say?” Jared asked anxiously.
He and Chase had hurt Tracy the most, but Trevor had always tried to play the peacemaker. Jared hoped that if Trevor asked, Tracy might show enough mercy to give Xander Corp a fighting chance. He figured Tracy would at least listen to their father.
Trevor shook his head. “She won’t see me, and she won’t forgive us. We brought this on ourselves, Jared. We can’t blame her.”
Thinking about everything Yvonne and Faye had done felt like a knife to the chest. As the head of the family, Trevor had only wanted peace, so he’d constantly pressured Tracy to cave. He hadn’t realized how much damage he was doing until it was too late.
Jared slumped back. “So Grandpa’s legacy is really going to be destroyed because of us? It’s not fair. Why should we have to pay for what Yvonne and Faye did while they just sit in a cell?”
He had suspected those two were trouble for a long time, but a lifetime of misplaced trust had kept him blind. Now he realized that everything Tracy had tried to tell them was true. They had just refused to see it. Now, it was too late for regrets.
Jared grabbed his jacket. “Dad, I’m going out.”
“Where are you going?” Trevor called out.
Jared gritted his teeth, his face twisted with resentment. “To the prison. I’m going to see those two. I’m not letting them get away with this. Don’t try to stop me. Even if I end up in there with them, I’m going to make sure they suffer. I’ll make their lives a living hell.”
Neither of them had slept. They hadn’t even dared to turn on their phones because of the constant stream of debt collectors. Jared had reached his breaking point. He had nothing left to lose, and he didn’t care about the consequences anymore. If he could make Faye and Yvonne suffer, he was willing to spend the rest of his life in prison.
“Stop right there!” Trevor walked over and slapped Jared hard across the face.
He looked at his son with pure frustration. “If you throw your life away, what am I supposed to do? You want me to bury my own son?”
