181 Chapter 181 First Shift
181 Chapter 181 First Shift
Dawn’s POV
I watched Damien and Elena through waves of agony that consumed every fiber of my being. My bones were shattering and rebuilding themselves in ways that defied everything I thought I knew about the human body.
The torment was beyond anything I had ever endured. I had survived countless brutal training sessions, endured punishment that would break most people, but this pain transcended all previous suffering. It felt like my very soul was being torn apart and reconstructed.
Screams escaped my throat when I could manage them, but most of the time the pain left me doubled over and gasping, unable to even breathe properly.
Asher dropped to the ground beside me and pulled me against him, practically cradling me in his lap. His touch felt surprisingly cool against my burning skin, providing the only relief I could find.
Through my blurred vision, I saw Damien and Elena standing directly in front of us. Above their heads, the full moon blazed down on us with an intensity that seemed to pierce straight through me.
Elena crouched down but maintained her distance, staying roughly a foot away from where I writhed in Asher’s arms. Her eyes held a gentleness I had never seen before.
“Stop resisting it. Let the change happen naturally,” she urged.
I had no idea what she meant. I wasn’t fighting anything. The pain was simply overwhelming me.
“What are you even talking about?” I forced out between clenched teeth.
“Try to breathe and relax your body. The first transformation is always the most difficult,” Elena said with surprising tenderness.

Another scream tore from my throat, and then something fundamental
shifted deep inside me. The sensation was like every cell in my body suddenly awakening to a new reality.
Asher immediately pulled back, and I struggled to stand on unsteady legs. When I tried to move toward him, my entire body felt foreign and
uncoordinated.
Elena rose to her full height, and I noticed that she seemed much taller than before. Both she and Damien were looking down at me with expressions of pride and satisfaction.
Everything around me appeared different. Taller. Changed.
I glanced down at myself and froze in shock. My hands and feet had vanished, replaced by paws that were a striking mixture of black and white fur. The sight made me stumble backward in disbelief.
“I’m a wolf. I’m actually a fucking wolf!” The thought screamed through my
mind.
“Yes, you are,” Elena responded, though her lips hadn’t moved.
My head snapped up to stare at her. “How did you do that?”
“We’re communicating through mind link. It’s possible because you’re still technically part of our pack,” she explained without speaking aloud.
“Can you read my thoughts?” Panic filled me at the possibility.
“No. We can only communicate when someone opens the connection intentionally. We can’t access private thoughts unless they’re deliberately shared. But it only works within pack bonds,” Elena clarified.
“How do I make it stop? This is terrifying. And my name isn’t what you keep calling me,” I protested mentally.
“Yes, it is. Why do you continue denying the truth? You were taken from us when you were just an infant. You’re our daughter,” Elena insisted.

No. This couldn’t be real. My entire existence had been dedicated to hunting and eliminating wolves. I couldn’t actually be one myself. The situation was completely insane.
I turned to look at Asher, searching for some sign that he found this as disturbing as I did. But his expression remained calm and accepting. He was also the one who had summoned Damien and Elena in the first place.
“You’re a wolf too,” I stated, studying his face.
“I was assigned to help you discover your wolf nature. A wolf raised among humans won’t naturally undergo transformation. They need exposure to their own species,” Asher explained matter–of–factly.
“You deceived me,” I said, backing away from him.
“Dawn,” he called out.
“Go to hell,” I snarled, spinning around and bolting into the dense forest. My new form was still clumsy and unfamiliar, making my escape attempt
awkward.
Behind me, I heard fabric ripping and the sound of another set of feet pursuing me through the undergrowth.
I glanced back and saw a massive wolf closing the distance between us. I couldn’t determine which of the three it was, since they were all capable of
transformation.
Suddenly I was tackled to the forest floor. Looking up, I recognized Asher’s distinctive eyes staring down at me from his wolf form.
“You can’t run from the truth any longer,” he insisted through the mind link.
“I trusted you. I thought you cared about me,” I said, hurt and betrayal evident in my mental voice.
“I care about you more than you could possibly understand. But we need to address that conversation at a different time,” he replied, finally stepping back so I could regain my footing.

“You’ve been working with them from the beginning,” I accused.
“I already explained this. You needed to be around your own kind to awaken your wolf. Koa and Nico are also wolves from Damien and Elena’s pack. They’re nothing like what you’ve been taught to believe. The Hunters are the real threat that needs to be eliminated,” Asher said firmly.
The revelation hit me like a physical blow. Everything I had believed about my life, my purpose, my identity had been built on lies. The people I had trusted most had been manipulating me from the start, and the family I had been trained to destroy might actually be my real family.
Standing there in my new wolf form, surrounded by the truth I had spent years running from, I realized that my entire world had just crumbled around
- me.
