Elena’s POV 1
The commotion in the middle of the night jolted Asher and me from our sleep. I scrambled for my clothes while Asher did the same beside me.
We hurried downstairs to find Miller barking orders in the living room, his expression grim and focused.
“What’s happening?” I demanded, my heart racing.
Miller turned to us, his face etched with concern. “Just got word from Damien and Elena. They tracked down Holloway and secured all the evidence they needed against him.”
Asher stepped closer, tension radiating from his body. “What about the
werewolf council?”
“They put up a fight. Turns out they knew exactly what Holloway was doing and chose to protect him.” Miller’s jaw clenched. “It escalated into violence.”
My stomach dropped. Everyone knew crossing the council meant serious
trouble.
“Don’t panic. Damien and Elena made it out safely. But the werewolf council is finished. Completely disbanded.” Miller’s words hung heavy in the air.
“What does that mean for everyone?” I asked, trying to process the magnitude of what had happened.
Caleb strode into the room, his presence commanding immediate attention. “It means the Alphas will have to convene and vote on new council members. And they need to do it fast.”
Relief flooded through me. “Are they coming back now?”
“Already on their way home. Stop worrying.” Caleb’s tone softened slightly. “They have solid proof that the council was abusing their authority against

their own people. No one’s going to blame mom or dad for what happened tonight.”
I felt some of the tension leave my shoulders, though the shock remained. They had actually taken down the werewolf council, the governing body of their entire species.
This world continued to baffle me. Growing up human meant following established laws and court systems. But werewolves seemed to handle justice through direct action, with Alphas and Lunas acting as judge and jury for their packs.
Sleep became impossible after that revelation. I made coffee and retreated to the front veranda, needing space to think.
The packhouse buzzed with activity despite the late hour. I couldn’t bear listening to more werewolf politics and strategies being discussed inside.
I understood I needed to learn about their world, but they had to remember how foreign all of this remained to me.
“Look what we have here.” A woman’s voice cut through my thoughts as footsteps approached the veranda.
Bianca. Of course.
“I noticed all the chaos. Thought maybe they were finally coming for you.” Her tone carried a hint of malicious hope.
“Hate to disappoint you.” I kept my voice level.
“I won’t lie, it is disappointing. But there’s nothing to be done about it now.” She shrugged with false casualness.
My patience snapped. “What do you want, Bianca? You don’t belong here, and from what I can see, you’re not exactly high–ranking in this pack. You have no business at the packhouse during a crisis.”
“I wanted to check on Asher. He’ll need someone to comfort him when you inevitably run back to those hunters.” Her smile turned predatory.

“That’s never happening. The Hunters are destroyed. There’s nobody left.” I stated firmly.
“There are survivors. Not many, but they’ll rebuild their numbers.” Bianca’s confidence wavered slightly.
The front door opened and Asher emerged, his expression darkening when he spotted Bianca.
“What do you want?” His voice carried a dangerous edge.
Bianca straightened, trying to appear nonchalant. “Just seeing if anyone needed help.”
“We don’t. And if we did, you’d be our last choice. Get out of here before Miller or Caleb notice you.” Asher moved protectively closer to me.
“They won’t touch me.” Bianca’s bravado sounded forced.
“Caleb knows you’re my ex–girlfriend. If he catches you bothering his little sister, he’ll tear you apart.” Asher’s warning carried absolute certainty.
