Chapter 99-1

Kiana

I was so upset with Troy that I could barely look at him as I stormed back to our room. He followed behind and smartly didn’t say a word until the door was closed. Then, I rounded on him.

“What is wrong with you? She is scared and she has no one and you’re just going to kick her out in the cold? You don’t make every wolf pledge their loyalty to you when they visit, so why are you making her? Can’t you see how fucking traumatized she is?”

“You are correct that I do not force a bond on wolves tethered to another, but I absolutely make rogue wolves swear a temporary oath with me when they stay on my lands, and I’ve gone as far as to create temporary bonds with one,” he said as he leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.”

Cindy is a rogue wolf now, and she is not coming to stay for a couple of weeks. Her stay as no expiration date, so I will absolutely have her bond with me.”

The fire continued to roar inside of me. “She doesn’t even know what it means to be humanely

released from a bond!”

“I made a promise to not rip the bond away from her. Do you think that I’m not going to keep it?” he

asked icily.

“You’re not exactly known for keeping your promises, are you?”

As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I regretted them. His arms dropped by his sides. “Are

you referring to the promise that I let you go? Or perhaps you’re referring to the promise I made

that I would not let Morven touch you?”

His own pain flared inside of me, and I shuddered. Had he been masking this all along? Guilt

slammed into me, and I swallowed hard.

“I-I was referring to the former,” I managed.

“I see. Well, I am trying to make up for that now. Anytime you want to leave, feel free to go,” he said

stiffly before he opened the door and walked out. When it slammed shut behind him, I sank to my

knees and tried not to cry.

What the hell was wrong with us? All we seemed to be doing these past couple of days was just circling each other and throwing pot shots.

Me more than him. So maybe it wasn’t an us problem but a me problem.

Still sitting on the floor, I reached up and grabbed the folder I’d haphazardly dropped onto the bed

earlier. Needing a distraction, I opened it up and began to skim the contents when the door

opened back up again.

Troy stormed in, hauled me up from the floor, and planted me on the bed like I weighed nothing. Papers scattered everywhere, fluttering to the ground.

“W-What are you doing?” I squeaked, breathless.

“Clearing up a misconception,” he snarled, eyes wild, chest heaving.

“When I told you that you could leave, it wasn’t because I wanted you gone. I don’t even know if I can let you go. I pointed out your exit because I promised it to you, because I want to see you happy. But if you walk out that door…” his voice cracked with fury and desperation, “it’ll take me less than a month to concede my status as alpha to Jenson, and come after you.”

He caged me with his hands, towering, vibrating with intensity. “I want you ruling by my side. But if this life isn’t for you, I’ll burn it all down and build you a fucking hut in rogue territory where no one knows us. My wolf chose you, Kiana. But I-” his chest slammed into mine as he growled, “-I am the one who will keep you. Both of my halves, every broken, fucked-up part of me, belongs to you,

If that isn’t clear enough…”

“That… um… that wasn’t clear,” I whispered, trembling.

His jaw clenched, nostrils flaring. “Am I making it clear now?” His voice dropped to a dark, guttural rasp. “I love you.”
