Chapter 32-1
Kiana
“Can you describe him to someone? Maybe work up a sketch of what he looks like?” Troy

I hesitated. The image of the red wolf wasn’t something I enjoyed dragging into the light, but if he
was still out there-still a threat-I’d do what needed to be done.
“He was the only one of my father’s friends who never looked at me twice,” I murmured. “Didn’t
leer. Didn’t even speak unless spoken to. And for that? I was grateful.”
I didn’t hear Troy stand, but I felt the shift in the air. A heartbeat later, he was in front of me,
gripping my chair and turning it until I was facing him.
I didn’t move.
I couldn’t.
Then he dropped to his knees and looked up at me with eyes that burned.
I swallowed hard. “Good thing I’m not in my panties,” I rasped, voice shaking. “Or I’d think you were
about to take advantage of me.”
His jaw clenched.
“I don’t need to see you half-naked to want you,” he growled. “I want you when you’re nowhere near me. When I’m trying not to. When I shouldn’t. Wanting you doesn’t stop, Kiana. It haunts me.”
He leaned in closer, voice lower now, dangerous. “I came here to remind you of one simple truth- you are my mate. And I will protect what’s mine. From everything.”
I flinched at the word mine.
All because his wolf claimed me. Not because he did.
“Your wolf chose me,” I whispered bitterly. “But your human half can’t even stomach the idea of
touching me.”
The moment I said it, the air shifted again-tighter, heavier, like a storm pressing against the
windows.
Troy’s fingers wrapped around my ankle, firm, possessive, and far too steady.
“Oh, Kiana,” he murmured, his voice now like velvet dragging across a blade. “My human half doesn’t hate touching you.”

His hand slid higher, slow and sure, like he had all the time in the world to ruin me. “He wants to rip
the world apart when you look at someone else. He wants to bury himself so deep in you there’s no
space for your anger or your pride.”
A shiver bolted through me, but I refused to show it.
“The mating bond consumes me,” he hissed, leaning closer, lips just a breath from my skin. “Wolf and man. Both sides crave you. Need you. And I hate it-I hate it, but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t fucking matter, Kiana. Because you can’t stay near me and not be mine.”
I stared down at him, my pulse pounding.
“You won’t let me go,” I said, barely above a whisper.
“You’re here with me now. You chose to stay, Kiana. Face your fears and help me fight the future.”
“I did.”
“Why?”
He stared up at me, eyes sharp, burning, demanding the truth I had no intention of giving. So instead, I sat straighter and peeled my shirt off, slow, deliberate. Beneath it, a thin black tank clung to me like a second skin. My pulse was a thunderstorm.
“Does it matter?” I said, voice low. “If you need me, Troy-if you want me-then fucking take me. Tonight. Because you can’t keep losing your mind every time a man so much as breathes around me. The alphas are coming. Morven is coming. You need to get a grip. So do what you need to do, Troy.”
The snarl that ripped from his throat wasn’t human. His hands were rough as they clamped down on my thighs, dragging me toward him like he’d been starving for weeks. His eyes gleamed with hunger. Obsession. Something violent.
And Goddess help me, I was so wet it hurt.
He shoved his face close to my core, breathing me in, and it was all I could do not to writhe.
“You think I don’t feel it?” he rasped. “The way you ache for me? You act like you don’t want this, but your body’s been begging me to break it all day.”
