Chapter 14-1

.Chapter 14-1

Kane

She said… what?

I was shocked, thrilled, overjoyed and fucking confused. I was experiencing the entire damn range of emotions all at once, and my brain couldn’t process any of it.

This beautiful, gorgeous woman in front of me was touching me. After so much time believing I was a walking death sentence, she was sitting here with her hands on my face, very much alive.

And she was saying I was no longer cursed?

“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice raw and barely functioning.

“Uh… well, I kind of broke your curse. You’re welcome,” she said with that casual tone that

somehow made everything more surreal.

“But-“I shook my head. My mind was reeling, trying to make sense of what she was telling me.”

How? Are you part witch?”

It couldn’t be possible, could it? Witches were the ones who’d cursed me in the first place. How could one of them be my salvation?

“No. I’m what’s called a null. I repel magic, basically. Your curse was a work of art, actually. No offense. It was very well done, so it took quite some energy to undo it, and some more to force out the magic poison running through your veins from the beast’s claws. It was exhausting, but it’s

done.”

A null.

I’d heard of them in old stories, but I’d thought they were myths. Descendants of ancient fae who’d been cut off from magic entirely. And she’d used that ability to break my curse.

Magic poison from the beasts? I filed that information away for later, there were implications there that I’d need to think about. But right now, I could only focus on what she was saying about the

curse.

“So the curse didn’t work on you? I… my skin is no longer toxic?”

It was still hard to believe, the idea that it was simply gone felt impossible.

“Yes, Kane. You’re free.”

She smiled at me, and it was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Pure and warm and full of

genuine happiness for me, this stranger she barely knew.

Clam

My lycan was howling inside me, not with pain or rage but with pure, unadulterated joy. The beast

that had been subdued and mourning for so long was suddenly alive again, vibrating with energy

and need and possessive hunger. He wanted to shift, to run, to hunt, to claim the woman in front of

us and never let her go.

“Free,” he kept repeating in my mind. “We’re free. She freed us. Ours. Mine. Claim her.”

The emotions were overwhelming. I’d been dead inside, and she’d brought me back to life with a single touch.

I couldn’t help myself. I brushed my thumb over her lips, marveling at the fact that I could touch. her at all. Her skin was soft, and she didn’t recoil from me in horror. She didn’t die.

The gasp she let out made my c**k stand to attention, a reaction that hadn’t happened for a very, very long time. Her lips parted under my touch, inviting, and a growl escaped my throat.

My lycan was absolutely wild inside my head, pacing and snarling with need. “Mine,” he kept repeating. “Ours. Claim her. Touch her. Never let go. She’s perfect. She’s everything.”

I agreed with him completely, nearly making me collapse from the sheer intensity of it all. I’d spent so long believing I was damned, that I deserved to suffer alone for what I’d done to my mother. And now this incredible woman had simply… fixed it.

“I… have no words, Simone,” I murmured, my eyes moving between hers and her lips. “Thank you’ is not nearly enough to convey what I’m feeling right now.”

How could I explain that she’d given me back my humanity? That again, I felt like a man instead of a monster? That she’d taken the broken, cursed creature I’d become and made him whole again?

I went quiet for a while, trying to get my emotions under control. My lycan was pushing closer to the surface, wanting to touch her everywhere, to confirm that she was real and alive and here with me. I could smell her scent more clearly now, making my mouth water. She smelled like home.
