Epilogue 1-2
“Sure, that’s why,” I grunted. I’d seen the way he’d stared at some of the noblewomen, the little shit.
He wasn’t as good as I was to keep things a secret.
“Well, I’m staying for a while as well,” Kenzi announced, shocking all of us. “They damaged me, so
they need to nurture me back to health. Put that friend of yours to work, dude.”
She lifted an eyebrow at Kane, who looked genuinely confused by her request.
But I smiled wickedly, because I knew exactly who she was talking about. “Mal?”
Kenzi grimaced. “I think I might have Stockholm syndrome.”
I snorted with laughter while Kane looked surprised. The idea of Kenzi, who’d been imprisoned and tortured, developing feelings for one of her captors should have been disturbing. But knowing Mal, and knowing Kenzi’s taste in complicated men, it actually made perfect sense.
“I’ll definitely send him your way,” Kane said slowly. “He told me he felt really guilty and has been
avoiding you.”
“Well, that won’t do,” Kenzi shook her head with determination.
“That’s so you,” Mom said with grudging admiration. “Getting laid literally while being imprisoned. I admire your talent, really.”
Dad tugged her back against his chest with a grunt. “Ring any
bells?”
“I’ll stay too, for a few weeks,” Elonso suddenly chimed in, and everyone turned to look at him. The room went quiet, because we all knew why he was staying. After Kellan and Lania had been imprisoned, Irene had helped get answers from Lania. That’s how we’d discovered it was Rosie who’d been feeding her information. She’d told Lania about our plans to rescue Kenzi and Irene, that I was mated to Kane, and that I was pregnant.
Finding out about Rosie’s betrayal had felt worse than the knife to my chest. She’d been trusted, respected, considered family by all of us. And she’d sold us out for reasons we still didn’t
understand.
“I need to figure out the whole truth,” Elonso said quietly.
“Of course,” Kane nodded. “Let me know if you need anything.”
Damien had found Rosie ready to escape after the battle, and she was currently in the dungeons waiting for a proper interrogation. Elonso deserved answers about why his third-in-command had turned traitor.

Epilogue 1-2
“Also, I wanted to ask you all for a favor,” Kane continued, and everyone turned to look at him.
My stomach tightened, because I had a feeling I knew what he was going to ask.
Claim
“My people… everyone here hates Kellan, and I fear what they might do to him. He’s done terrible things, of course. But I don’t want to see him dead. He’s my son.” His voice was strained with the admission. “I wanted to ask you,” he turned to my parents, “would you take him to your pack, as
your prisoner? Maybe your witches know of a way to put a lock on his magic so he’s no longer an
active threat. I will visit frequently to try and undo the damage my absence made.”
My parents shared a look, then glanced at Irene.
“Lunessa might know, if we can find her,” the witch said from her bed while Jensen massaged her
back.
“We’ll take him,” Dad nodded at Kane. “And make sure he’s not harmed.”
“Thank you,” Kane’s shoulders sagged with relief, and I squeezed his hand. I knew how much this meant to him, being able to save his son despite everything Kellan had done.
“I think his mother might be a problem, though,” Kane continued. “He mentioned being in touch with her. I think she taught him how to use his abilities. And Lania’s serum…”
“She can try to cross us,” Mom snarled, her eyes flashing with protective fury. “I’ve been craving some blood. And we already started looking into the serum. Don’t worry, we’ll get to the bottom of
it.”
“I’ll also look into it. She might be hiding somewhere around here, so we’ll keep in touch,” Kane
agreed.
The idea of Kellan’s mother still being out there, still being a threat, made my skin crawl. But if anyone could handle a psychotic witch, it was my family.
“But now, please stay until the weekend,” Kane said, his tone shifting to something more cheerful.” We have a big celebration coming up soon.”
“I fucking love parties,” Dash nodded enthusiastically.
I smiled mischievously, because they had absolutely no idea what Kane and I had been planning. I
couldn’t wait to see their faces.
This was going to be interesting.
