Epilogue III-1

“I’m going to kill you!” I snarled at Kane through gritted teeth as another contraction ripped through my body. “I’m going to tear your throat out with my bare hands and feed your organs to the wolves!”
“I love you too, wife,” he said calmly, wiping the sweat from my forehead with a damp cloth.
The man had nerves of steel, I’d give him that. Most people would have run screaming by now
after the threats I’d been hurling at him for the past six hours. But not my devoted husband. He just
sat there looking completely besotted while I promised to dismember him in increasingly creative
ways.
“This is all your fault!” I gasped, gripping his hand so hard I was probably breaking bones. “Your
giant lycan genetics and your stupid knot and your-”
“Baby’s coming!” Saul announced from between my legs, apparently immune to my colorful language after years of dealing with laboring she-wolves. “I can see the head!”
“Finally,” Mom said from her spot near the window. “I was starting to think this kid was planning to
stay in there until college.”
“Don’t be dramatic, Kiana,” Kenzi said from her chair in the corner, where she was stress-eating her
way through a plate of pastries. “It’s only been six hours.”
“Only six hours?” I shrieked. “Easy for you to say! You’re not the one being ripped in half by alien
parasites!”
“They’re not aliens, love,” Kane said patiently. “They’re our children.”
“Same difference right now,” I panted.
Dash was pacing by the door, looking green around the gills. “I should have stayed in the hallway. This is traumatizing. I’m never having sex again.”
“I don’t even know what the hell you’re all fucking doing here!” I shrieked, though they shrugged my
words.
“Good,” Dad grunted from his position near Mom. “You’re too immature anyway, Dash.”
“I’m twenty-five!”
“Exactly my point.”

Another contraction hit, and I let out a string of curses. Kane just squeezed my hand and whispered encouragements while I contemplated all the ways I could make him suffer for getting
me into this situation.
“One more push and we’ll have the first baby,” Saul said encouragingly.
“First baby?” I gasped. “What do you mean first? There’s only one in there!”
The look Saul exchanged with Kane made my blood run cold.
“S-Surprise?” my husband said weakly.
“Twins?!” I screamed. “You knocked me up with twins and didn’t tell me?!”
“We thought it might be better to-” Saul said quickly, and I interrupted him.
“To what? Let me find out while I’m in labor?!”
“Push, Simone,” Saul commanded, ignoring my death glare. “Now!”
I pushed with every ounce of strength I had, partly to get the baby out and partly because I was
imagining strangling my husband. A few seconds later, a loud cry filled the room.
“It’s a girl!” Saul announced, holding up a squirming, red-faced baby who was already expressing her displeasure with the world. “Perfect and healthy!”
The sight of my daughter made tears spring to my eyes despite my exhaustion and fury. She was
beautiful and loud and absolutely mine.
“Let me see her,” I demanded, reaching out with shaking hands.
Saul placed her on my chest, and I felt my heart expand in ways I didn’t know were possible. She
was tiny and wrinkled and covered in various bodily fluids, but she was perfect. Ours.
“She’s gorgeous,” Kane whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Look at her little fingers.”
“Don’t think this gets you off the fucking hook,” I muttered, but my anger was already fading as I stared at our daughter.
“Another coming,” Saul warned. “Ready for baby number two?”
“Do I have a choice?” I grumbled, reluctantly letting them take my daughter so I could focus on evicting her sibling.
