Spencer’s words died in his throat.
I picked up a document from the table and slid it to him.
“Eight AM this morning. The Holt Group board held an emergency meeting.”
“One item on the agenda: termination of Spencer Holt as president. Effective immediately.”
“Nine in favor. Two abstentions. Zero opposed.”
Spencer grabbed the document.
The signature page was right there. Eleven board members. Blue stamps. Corporate seals.
Including three men he thought were loyal to him.
“That’s impossible.” His voice cracked.
“Uncle Steve and Bill are my people. They wouldn’t vote for-”
“Your people?”
I took a sip of tea.
“Spencer, do you really think they followed you because you’re talented?”
“They followed the heir to Holt Group. You’re not the heir anymore. So they’re not your people anymore
