Chapter 4
Luca lit a cigarette and fastened his belt.
“You’re really leaving?” Serena sat up in bed, wrapped in the sheets, pouting. “You said you’d spend the whole day with me. I only agreed to wait for the certificate. Now you’re leaving?”
“I have to.” Luca grabbed his jacket. ‘She gave me three minutes. You know her temper-
“What temper? Serena scoffed. ‘She’s always so understanding.”
“I understand, of course. But today is different.” Luca glanced at himself in the mirror. “I promised her this wedding
“Then why are you here?”
“Because you ‘insisted.” He leaned down and pinched her cheek. “Be good. I’ll be back tonight.”
Serena turned away. “When are we getting that certificate, then?”
‘Later. He picked up his phone.
The screen was exploding. Messages in the group chat. Voice mails. A video from Marco.
He frowned and hit play.
His eyes went wide.
“What is it?” Serena looked back at his face. “What’s wrong?”
His hand trembled slightly.
In the video, a woman in a wedding dress was smiling.
Then the camera shifted to a man with a groom’s flower pinned to his lapel.
The scene was warm. Intimate. Like a wedding.

She gave him everything, working herself to the bone for his projects.
After all that-after this wedding-she couldn’t possibly marry someone else.
He steadied himself and called Marco.
The line rang and rang. Marco finally picked up. Chaos in the background.
Someone shouting. Someone murmuring. Pure bedlam.
‘Luca… Marco’s voice was hollow.
“What the hell is going on?” Luca nearly shouted. “Why is Costa at my wedding?”
“Rebecca hates him more than anyone!”
A long pause.
‘Look, the Costas don’t show up unless they’re invited. I didn’t think-
The blood rushed to Luca’s head.
“He’s doing this to humiliate me. His voice was tight. “Rebecca’s been mine for ten years. Everyone knows that. Costa

Another pause.
Then Marco’s voice came through. Weak. “Luca… you need to watch the second video I sent you’
