“Come in.” Khloe’s voice suddenly rang out, and the office door opened shortly afterward.
Ethan and Charlotte exchanged a quick glance before hurrying inside.
Khloe was standing beside the desk while a police officer nearby was taking notes.
Charlotte quickly walked to Khloe’s side and immediately noticed the faint tension in her expression. But before she could speak, Khloe reached out and took hold of her hand first.
“Don’t be nervous. There was a homicide in a neighboring city last night, and the police are searching for a fugitive. This person had previous contact with our company, so they’re just here to ask a few questions. Just answer honestly.”
Khloe’s tone was calm and professional, as though she were simply reassuring an employee.
But Charlotte’s heart instantly leapt into her throat.
A fugitive… someone who had contact with them…
Could it be-
“May I ask if you recognize this person?”
Before Charlotte could think further, a photograph was held up in front of her.
The picture appeared to have been taken secretly from a distance. The man stood on a street corner, only his profile visible, revealing barely half his face.
He wore a baseball cap and an oversized black denim jacket.
But even from that silhouette alone, Charlotte recognized him immediately.

Before she could say a single word, her eyes had already begun to redden uncontrollably.
Ethan stepped forward at once, shielding Charlotte behind him as he grabbed the photo.
“This guy looks familiar!”
“Oh? You’ve seen him before?” the officer asked, his attention diverted toward Ethan.
“Yeah, I think he came to the company before,” Ethan replied, pretending to think carefully.
Khloe spoke calmly. “He interviewed here once before. I thought he looked capable, so I introduced him to Michael as a bodyguard.”
“Ah, right! Now I remember. No wonder he looks so familiar!”
Ethan slapped his forehead and immediately laughed.
Noah had originally been undocumented. Later, Lucas arranged a new identity for him-one that placed him as a bodyguard under the Morrison family.
And since Michael wasn’t currently in Goldmont City, the explanation sounded perfectly reasonable.
“And what about you? Have you met him?” The officer shifted his attention back to Charlotte.

The slight delay in her reaction had already drawn everyone’s notice.
“Charlotte, just tell the truth.”
Khloe gently wrapped an arm around Charlotte’s shoulders, lightly squeezing her arm.
Charlotte looked at Khloe, her thoughts finally returning to order. After a moment, she spoke calmly.
“I know him. We dated briefly for a few days, but afterward he disappeared without saying goodbye.”
Ethan froze for a second, but after seeing Khloe’s expression, he immediately understood.
Noah had often picked Charlotte up from work and driven her home. Their relationship had been impossible to hide. Trying too hard to deny it now would only make the police suspicious.
Before the officers could continue questioning, Charlotte hurriedly asked, “Did something happen to him? I’ve been trying to find him too.”
“We’ve received information that he may be a member of Lacuna. Last night, a homicide occurred in a
neighboring city. The victim was identified as a wanted criminal, but the condition of the body was extremely gruesome. After the incident, a witness reported seeing someone nearby, and this photo was provided by that witness.”
Khloe briefly explained the situation.
The police then elaborated further.
Under normal circumstances, a single photograph wouldn’t have led investigators to the Morrison Group so quickly. But the victim’s identity made the situation unusually serious.
He wasn’t merely a wanted criminal-he was also a hired offender operating through an underground website. Investigators had recovered extensive evidence from the communication devices found on him, confirming that he had been involved in the earlier attack on Michael.
That incident had caused enormous public outrage and severe social impact. The Goldmont City police were now devoting full resources to the investigation.
Unfortunately, the leads were chaotic and deeply tangled, especially with Lacuna involved.
Khloe had already submitted a great deal of information to the police earlier, but progress in the case had remained frustratingly slow.
