The room went stiff.
The rich boy waited for a response, but got nothing
He leaned forward. “Bro? You don’t actually know her, do you?”
Julian Hale was back from abroad today, and the Hale house was full of guests.
Everyone stared over in surprise.
Julian twisted a ring on his finger and stayed silent.
Beside him, Mrs. Hale let out a soft laugh.
“How could he?”
I looked up at her, wrapped in a soft shawl.
“Your brother is different from you. He has a high vision since he was a child.”
“He doesn’t look twice at ordinary people.”
The meaning was crystal clear.
By background, I barely qualified to step through the Hales‘ front door.
Everyone understood–except the rich boy.
“What ordinary people?” He frowned, lacing our hands together tightly, and announced firmly, “Lina’s amazing.”
“Mom, I’m gonna marry Lina Moore.”
The second he finished, Julian’s gaze snapped to us.
He stared at our intertwined fingers and let out a cold laugh.
“Good?”
His voice dripped with sarcasm.
“The kind that steals and lies?”
