I scrambled to shove the pregnancy test stick deep into the shirt top pocket, before hstily unlocking the bathroom door. Roman’s towering frame filled the doorway and he’d been clearly waiting for me a while. Once i fully opened the door, his eyes swept over me and his frown deepened.
Panic surged in my chest and I quickly looked away from him. Had he seen the test?
Before I could retreat, his large hand cupped my face, tilting my head up so his piercing gaze locked onto mine. “Why are you crying?”
Oh.
I lifted trembling fingers to my cheeks, feeling the sticky remants of blood tears dried into flaky streaks. A weak smile tugged at my lips as I wiped at them.
‘Nothing.‘ I mouthed at him, shaking my head. ‘I was just overwhlemed.‘
His eyes narrowed at me and his frown didn’t fade, but the Lycan King didn’t press me further and instead offered me his hand.
I hesitated slightly before placing my smaller ones in his and his fingers curled around mine. Holding, his gaze, I begin to slowly mouth the thoughts in my head at him. ‘At least, my hybrid nature will save you from humiliation.‘ I said silently, keeping my gaze trained on his chest as his eyes moved over my lips, assimilating my words. I was so lucky that my mate was patient enough to let me enuciate my thoughts. ‘You won’t be accepting an ordinary weak omega as your mate anymore. Everyone in my pack was concerned that I was too fragile and…too unworhty…‘ my throat tightened but I lifted my chin, forcing confidence into my expression. ‘Now you don’t have to worry about that.‘
I expected Roman to be relieved since he had fought so hard to protect me. A stronger Luna should be what he wanted, right?
Instead, his lips barely twitched befroe settling into a flaat, thin line. His hesitation set off warning bells in my head.
“About that,” he muttered, taking my wrist and guiding me back inside the bathroom.
I stiffened as he reached for a tissue, wetting it under the sink before carefully dabbing at the blood on my face. His touch was gentle but his next words weren’t.
“We can’t make your hybrid nature known…yet.”
1 blinked up at him. What?
Roman sighed. “Most of my council are Lycans, stronger than the average werewolves, but I rule a kingdom that despises vampires. Hell, even I despise vampires. It they find out what you are now, they won’t see strenght. They’d rather I mate a leprous omega than a hybrid.” his fingers brushed under my chin, tilting my head so I had no choice but to meet his eyes. “For now, we need to suppress our vamprie traits until I can put policies in place to protect you. You;ll need to take wolfsbane daily.”
My stomach turned violently. No./
I couldn’t take wolfsbane, not while I was pregnant. What if it harmed my baby. My fingers clenched agianst my sides. I wanted to tell him, but something in me, whispered not yet.
Roman must have seen the horror on his face because he brushed the hair from my face and continued wiping down the dried blood. “If you don’t want t to take wolfsbane, I have another option.”
His hand pulled away from my face and he pulled something from his pocket. My breathe caught.
It was my silver locket. Instinctively, I touched my neck, shocked that I hadn’t even noticed it was gone.
“I took it when you were asleep.” He explained and opened it. When he did, the first thing I noticed was a shimmering pearllike stone embedded inside. “I had a hunch you might not want wolfsbane so I placed a moonstone in it. This will suppress your vampiric abilities, until I can fins a solution.” he stepped behind me now and fastened it around my neck. I swallowed as its coolness settled against my skin.

Relief flooded me and I looked up at my maate. Roman had thought of everything.
Before I could overthink it, I turned on my toes, pressed up and kissed him.
It was brief, just a peck, but the moment I pulled back, my face burned. I lowered my gaze, suddenly shy.
Roman chuckled. “And what was that for?”
I hesitated before mouthing, No one’s ever been this kind to me.
His eyes darkened.
“There are other ways to thank me, you know?” His hand curled around my waist, tugging me flush against him. My breath caught just as his lips crashed against mine.
It wasn’t gentle.
It was rough, hungry, like a claiming. His fingers tangled in my hair, tilting my head back as he deepened the kiss, his tongue stroking against mine with wicked precision. Heat coiled in my stomach, making my knees weak and I moaned silently into his mouth. His teeth caught my bottom lip, sucking it into his mouth before he finally pulled away, his breath heavy against my lips.
“I will protect you, Snow. No matter what.”
Then he kissed me once more, softer this time, before finally releasing me.
1 was still dazed when he led me back out to the limo.
The city was unlike anything I had ever seen. This was the center of Valerie, the Lycan kingdom
Back home in the midnight pack, my pack had lived in the countryside of Valeria, like small villages with winding dirt roads. But here, towering buildings gleamed under the night sky, their glass reflecting lights. Cars sped by in organized chaos, and the streets buzzed with life. Humans walked in groups, laughing, oblivious to the predators among them. Werewolves. I could smell
them.
It was overwhelmingly beautiful. We never had humans stray close to our packs and even if they did, they weren’t so at ease even though they didn’t know what we were, I guess the human intuition told them to be wary of us. But right now, I could see a human tending to a Lycan and there was no strange fear.
I pressed my fingers against the cool window, watching the blur of lights. I still couldn’t believe this was my life now. The mate of the Lycan King of Valerie.
Out of nowhere, I turned to Roman and asked, ‘When will I stop crying blood every time I get emotional?‘
He smirked. “I just won’t make you cry.”
I rolled my eyes and punched his arm lightly,
His laughter was low and deep. “Soon,” he promised. “Once you take your first human blood, the blood tears will stop.”
I swallowed, looking away. Human blood. The idea made my stomach twist.
The car suddenly slowed, and I turned my attention back outside. My eyes bugled. We were at what had to be the Lycan Castle..
It was enormous with towering spires reaching toward the heavens, bathed in soft golden light. The architecture was intricate, old–worldly yet regal, with sweeping balconies and grand arched windows that glowed warmly from within. A massive gate, flanked by stone–carved Lycans, stood before it, opening as the limo approached.
My jaw nearly hit the floor.
