Chapter 155
Evelyn’s POV
With shaky hands, I carefully picked up the pile of papers from the hidden compartment of the box. I
couldn’t believe it.
My heart was hammering so furiously in my chest, I swiftly placed the papers down on top of the bed, treating them as if they would dissolve from my very hands.
“It’s real,” I whispered to myself.
My mother’s hidden will…It wasn’t a lie. That cloud of doubt that had settled in my mind vanished within
seconds.
A rush of giddy excitement spread all throughout. I began to read.
‘Upon my death, I, Katherine Silverwood, hereby bequeath my title and all my assets to my daughter, Evelyn Silverwood…’
My heart caught in my throat as I read on.
…. Both the house and the land it remains on will fall to her, along with all of its earthly possessions. This includes the manor, guest homes, vehicles, agricultural equipment, interior and exterior furniture, and
bank vaults…”
My eyebrows drew together in question. “Bank vaults?” I asked myself.
What bank vaults. Ever since my mother passed away, according to my father, I was left to believe that our family had become destitute. Again, my mother had all control of the finances at the time.
Whatever money there was left in my parents’ joint account had been frugally spent on my Stepmother and step-siblings.
But my mother must have known that my father would have dried out all the real accounts if he had been left anything. I pressed a hand to my chest, bearing through the ache of all that I had lost because of those people.
I glanced back at one of the photos my mother had placed in that box. It was one of her and me when I was just a child. A watery smile pulled at the corners of my mouth.
“Don’t worry, mother,” I promised. “I’m going to restore everything that they destroyed. Everything.”
I was determined to bring my mother’s legacy back from the grave, in which my father and stepmother turned over during their takeover of everything she’d once built.
Unfortunately, my spark of pride and vehemence came to a crashing halt as I came upon the last small paragraph.
‘As for my daughter’s personal inheritance, the only chance in which she will be able to fully come into

her rightful status as an Alpha, and unlock her full potential as a Silver Wolf, will be in the event of conceiving an heir of her own. Or, if-‘
What?? An heir??
My concentration was suddenly broken on account of the noise that was coming from outside the room. Kane’s thunderous voice boomed off the walls, causing my entire body to shiver and quake.
I snapped my head up from the document and hastily stowed them back into their original place. I couldn’t believe it. Any of it.
My brief flicker of bubbling excitement had soured due to this unforeseen clause.
All I could think of was that damn marriage contract between Kane and me. Granted, we were both doing our best not to pay too much attention to its existence; its numerous stipulations were very much clearly
stated.
Kane had made it abundantly clear that he had no desire to ever sire a child with me. And while he was in the midst of proving that his feelings were genuine, I would hardly believe that his opinion on something as severe as this would likely change any time soon.
So, what did that mean for my case? Was I never going to amount to my full potential as a possible Alpha myself?
Moments later, Kane came walking into the room. His whole body froze when he saw me shaking in the corner. Instantly, his expression filled with concern.
“Evelyn?” He gently called out to me before closing the distance between us. I felt his hands curl around my arms. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
