Chapter 21
Careful, little wolf, he says. His use of our mindlink nearly makes me gasp – he’s never done that before. I suggest you don’t say anything reckless.
Kane doesn’t tell me what consequences I dare to face if I continue to act up, but still I choose to stay quiet as he again addresses the reporters.
“She’s quite blunt, isn’t she?” he asks, continuing to work his charm. “She loves to joke around – keeps me on my toes.”
Again, his arm wraps around my waist, telling me that it’s once again time to move on. He thanks the reporters and I give them a coy smile as I’m guided along.
“It’s almost time for the official ceremony to begin,” Kane informs me. “We should go get into place.”
Still, I don’t say anything as he gestures in the direction I’m meant to go. As I walk toward the stage on the side of the room, horns begin to play, gaining everyone’s attention.
I take my place at the right side of the stage as Alice also comes out. She’s all smiles as she approaches the microphone at center stage, silencing all conversation.
“Thank you all for coming to tonight’s Luna coronation ceremony,” she begins. “I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are delighted to welcome Evelyn into our pack.” She pauses then, smiling over at me and giving me a wink. Playing it up for the cameras.
I do nothing in response other than continue to simply listen.
“Now, as we kick off our ceremony, we welcome to the stage a man who needs no introduction,” she continues. “Our Alpha and my beloved son – Kane.”
The room erupts into cheers and applause as Kane walks up on the stage from the opposite end – that gorgeous smile plastered back on his face. He joins his mother, giving her a warm hug before he steps up to the microphone.
“Thank you all for being here,” he says. “Whether you are a member of our pack or Evelyn’s home pack, we are grateful that you could come out tonight to witness our Luna stepping into her rightful role.”
He then pauses, turning his attention toward me as he extends an arm, insinuating that I come join him. However, I don’t move.
The room goes silent as everyone waits, seconds ticking by as I don’t shift an inch.
The brush of Kane’s laugh fills the microphone. “It appears my Luna has a little bit of stage fright,” he tries, causing others to chuckle with him. “Come on, darling. I’ll be right here with you.”
Still, I do nothing. I simply keep my feet planted, not deterred even as whispers begin to fill the room. Swiftly, Kane clears his throat before he begins to walk in my direction.
He smiles at the crowd before he puts his back to them, fully facing me as he puts his hands on my

waist. What the audience can’t see, though, is how Kane’s expression shifts into a scowl as he stares
down at me.
“What are you doing?” he demands in a whisper.
It’s then that I retrieve the remote that I’d been hiding in my skirts, watching Kane’s expression shift to confusion as I lift it. And then I hit play.
I’d rigged the speakers. It wasn’t easy, but I’d spent the last two nights making sure I had undetectable
access to them.
With the click of the remote, the speakers come to life, playing the recording I had set up – just as
expected.
Kane’s eyes widen as Bianca’s voice loudly plays out throughout the room.
“This whole Luna coronation ceremony for Evelyn is a complete joke,” she snidely remarks. “I was the one who was supposed to marry Kane!”
Gasps break out within the entire crowd and I can see reporters lifting their tape recorders and video
cameras.
“Kane told me himself that he has no desire to sleep with Evelyn. He only wants me!” Bianca’s voice declares. “I’m his rightful Luna!”
People are beginning to whisper, their voices growing louder as hell slowly begins to break loose.
Kane doesn’t say anything as he continues to stand in front of me, but his eyes say it all. They’re blazing with pure betrayal. Still, I step out of his arms, leave him behind as I finally take my mark at the microphone.
Easily, everyone’s voices die out, bringing the room to silence without me even having to say anything.
Calmly, I begin to speak.
“I regret to inform you that your time has only been wasted tonight,” I state. “There will be no Luna recognized tonight as…
I refuse this coronation.”
