Chapter 34
Evelyn’s POV
Going to the hospital was a nice distraction. I’ve been visiting over the last few weeks in order to not only focus on my wolf’s treatment, but to also continue helping the medical staff.
They hadn’t been kidding when they’d asked for my help with treating feral wolves and I was happy to do whatever I could. Throughout my time helping out, I’d quickly learned that these feral wolves in Kane’s pack had all once participated in the war against the rogue forces. The doctors believed their condition was a result of war-trauma.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve discovered that my wolf has a miraculously calming effect on these feral wolves and seems to help them whenever they begin to have an episode. I’m thankful that I can ease these wolves, but it also feeds my own hope.
I have to believe that my wolf is getting stronger, that she will only continue to grow. If she can calm feral wolves then that must mean she’s getting better day by day. I have to hold onto that.
I’ve only been here a few hours today, and yet I’m already in the throes of helping the patients and doctors with various treatments. One wolf seemed as though he was on the verge of a major episode, but we were able to catch it early and get him to relax.
He’s resting now, allowing me the chance to stretch my legs as I walk down the hall. I’m going to the nurses’ station to see if there is anywhere else I’m needed. Only, my steps momentarily falter as I notice a group of people coming down the hall.
At the center is the Alpha King, but Kane and Alexander flank both his sides. There are a few more members of the King’s entourage and – much to my dismay – Bianca is amongst them.
“Evelyn,” the King states pleasantly as he and his crew stop before me. I resist the urge to glance in
Kane’s direction.
“I had no idea you’d be here,” he continues. “What a nice surprise.”
“I, uh…yes,” I offer pathetically. Yet, the doctor at my side is eager to jump in and offer more information.
“Evelyn comes in every week to help us out,” he states happily. “We’ve been fortunate to benefit from her ability to calm our feral wolves affected by the war. With her help, we’re confident that we can uncover the cause of the feral wolves’ illness.”
I blink in surprise as I had no idea the doctors were that optimistic when it came to my abilities. The Alpha King seems delighted by this declaration, staring at me with new interest as I can’t help but notice Kane’s own gaze. I momentarily catch his eye, noting the newfound curiosity in his stare.
“Delightful,” the Alpha King states. “I’d love to hear more about that. For now, doctor, would you mind taking me to see some of these feral wolves?”
The doctor swiftly nods, clearly honored to be given the task as he leads the Alpha King along. Kane and Alexander follow him, and Alexander makes sure to flash me a quick smile and wave as he passes.

I’m gently smiling to myself when a scoff comes from behind me.
“Oh, please,” Bianca says as I turn to find her. “You don’t expect everyone to buy that you could actually help those wolves, do you? You’re just a weak wolf. In fact, I bet you just bribed all of these doctors to make you look good in front of Kane and this is all a show.”
Following her words, I press out a firm sigh.
“Don’t assume others are useless just because you lack ability yourself,” I tell her coldly, making her
nostril flair.
“Lack ability?” she says, raising her voice. “I’m more powerful than you could ever dream of being!”
