Chapter 48
Evelyn’s POV
⚫25 Bonus
As I leave the dining room, I don’t stop as I head right out of the pack house and get into my awaiting car in the driveway. I drive away, taking a deep breath as I begin to head to the pack hospital.
Since I declared that I’ll be doing the banquet preparations alone, I know that I should be putting my attention there. However, I also made a promise to attend to the feral wolves. Even if Kane was the one who I made the agreement with, I can’t let those wolves down.
The drive isn’t long the hospital and soon I’ll pulling into the parking lot. As I turn off my car, I have to take another deep breath.
There’s an ache in my chest as if I need to scream. It’s like a force longing to get out, but it’s not quite ready. The longer I sit with it, the more I swear it’s my wolf.
I’m here at the hospital to help the other wolves, but it’s clear my own wolf isn’t in great shape either. She feels pent up and distant. Her weakness is still evident, reminding me that I also need to work on her
needs too.
Maybe today will help. The more I help the feral wolves, maybe it could better my wolf too.
I rub at the ache in my chest, trying to stay hopeful despite everything. Really, I’m trying to put Kane and Bianca out of my mind, at least for a little while.
As I walk through the doors of the hospital, it appears that I got here just at the right time. Ahead of me in the hall, a few doctors are trying to hold and calm a feral wolf who seems to be in the middle of an episode. As I make eye contact with one of the doctors, they immediately wave me over.
“Evelyn! We need your help!” he calls.
Immediately, I run to join them, coming to the wolf’s side. I kneel beside him, my blood growing warmer as I set my hands on him. As he senses my touch, his eyes snap to meet mine.
My eyes glow purple as we hold one another’s gaze and calming words echo through my thoughts It takes less than a minute, but my wolf is easily able to soothe him.
“Thank you,” the doctor says as the feral wolf calmly falls back to sleep. The rest of the doctors sigh in relief as they are able to relax.
“If you don’t mind,” the doctor says, looking at me. “We could use your help with a few of the other wolves upstairs. They seem to be growing more and more agitated as the day goes on.”
“Of course,” I tell him. “I’d be happy to help.”
I’m led by the doctor upstairs while the other doctors staying behind prep the sleeping wolf to be moved back to his room. When we reach the right floor, I can instantly understand what the doctor meant.
There are a few grunts of annoyance from the rooms as the other wolves seem restless, showing signs

that they could have a full episode at any moment. Wanting to avoid a complete mess, I get right to work
After visiting countless rooms, I’m exhausted from being on my feet and from attending to so many different wolves. It seems like everyone is in better shape now, but I’m feeling drained. In order to rest, I pause for a moment and sit in one of the open seats in the hall.
I yawn and rub at my eyes – they’re sore from the bright lighting of the hospital. Doctors and nurses are warriors for dealing with these circumstances every day, and then some. I’m tired after only a few hours
I groan to myself as I realize I have been there for hours. Though I do feel better and less pent up, I’ve lost a lot of time that should have been used for preparing for the Alpha King’s dinner.
As I think about it, I lean forward, placing my head into my hands. There is still so much to do and I’m seriously starting to doubt I can do it all alone.
Not only do I still need to decorate and arrange the dining room, but I have to clean up the entire mess that Bianca and her minions made. I also have to make sure food is made and ready for thirty guests or
more.
The dinner is supposed to be tomorrow night. How the hell am I supposed to pull this off?
“Evelyn?”
The sound of my name causes me to abruptly sit up. My head spins a little, but I blink away the sensation as I register the nurse standing over me. It’s Diana, and I’ve seen her many times.
“Are you alright?” Diana asks, scanning me with genuine concern.
“Oh, yes,” I say. “Sorry. I just have a lot on my mind.”
“Would you like to talk about it?” Diana asks, taking the seat next to me. “I’m an excellent listener”
