Chapter 68
Evelyn’s POV
I don’t miss the obvious surprise that flashes over Kane’s face, which is soon replaced by a sense of distrust. I can’t say that I blame him, but I also know that I don’t have any ill intentions.
“Unlike you, I don’t have any tricks up my sleeves,” I inform him. “And may I remind you that I just threw an amazing banquet for the Alpha King on your pack’s behalf? I made you look good – I could have let that whole thing crash and burn.”
Kane considers this, various other emotions flashing over his face as he seems to think through every possibility. However, he eventually nods.
“Alright, fine,” he agrees. “We’re having a meeting tomorrow afternoon – 2 p.m. Don’t be late.”
“I’ll be there,” I assure him, semi shocked that he actually agreed. Maybe he thinks he owes it to me after the kiss incident, which I’d likely have to agree. It’s the least he can do.
“But Evelyn,” Kane says, regaining my attention. “I’m warning you you need to be on your best behavior tomorrow and not cause any problems, or else there will be consequences.”
I hear his threat loud and clear, but don’t let it get underneath my skin. I meant what I said – I don’t have any tricks up my sleeve or intend to stir up trouble. My interest is purely innocent.
I nod. “Okay.”
.
The next day, I find that Kane is true to his word as he sends me a text to remind me about the pack meeting. Thankfully, I managed to actually get a good night’s sleep, which makes me feel bright eyed and ready as I head to the meeting room.
I arrive ten minutes early, finding that the room is already decently full with other pack members. However, as they note my presence, they begin to quiet down, questioning looks painted across their faces.
“What is she doing here?”
“I don’t know. She’s probably lost.”
I ignore their comments and stares as I keep to my own space, noting how everyone gives me a wide berth. I practically have a whole corner of the room to myself as people scamper away. It’s like they think I have some sort of disease.
Maybe they do, actually. That does seem like a twisted rumor Bianca would spread about me, insisting that everyone could catch it if they get too close.
I’m still keeping myself amused with the idea when Kane enters, making everyone perk up as they are eager to greet and impress him. However, he’s quiet as he scans the room, searching for something. His gaze then stops as it lands on me.
“Evelyn,” he states. He then waves me along, insisting that I follow him.
The others blink, stunned as I do as Kane requests. I follow him up to the head of the room where a seat clearly meant for Kane sits. However, another has been pulled up aside it, which Kane gestures to.
My eyes widen as I realize that he intends for me to sit there…beside him. It’s the rightful seat of Luna and he

wants me to sit there. I know it makes sense considering I am Luna, but he doesn’t necessarily have to let me take
the seat.
I give him a questioning stare, trying to make sure that he’s certain. Kane gives me a firm stare back, once again gesturing to the chair. I clear my throat as I approach, accepting his invitation as I take my seat.
All around, I can see the weary looks that now sit on the pack members’ faces. They clearly don’t like that I’m sitting here, but they also know that they can’t say anything. Although, I can sense things are only about to get ten times worse as Biance walks through the door.
She notices me instantly and I watch as she instantly freezes, trying to process what is going on. However, once it sets in, color rushes into her cheeks.
She makes her disapproval known as she walks through the crowd, coming right up to Kane.
“What is she doing here?” she asks, angrily. “And why is she sitting there?”
“As Luna she should be attending pack meetings,” Kane answers, leaving out the fact that I asked to come. “And she will sit in the Luna’s rightful seat.”
Bianca scoffs, still keeping her voice low. “But she’s not even a real Luna.”
Kane answers this comment by giving Bianca a scalding stare. It seems to do the trick as she cowers, retreating to go take her own seat. However, her gaze is instantly placed on me, giving me nothing but daggers as she loudly insults me to the woman sitting beside her.
Thankfully, the rest of the pack members finally arrive and we’re able to start the meeting, causing everyone to fall silent.
