Chapter 8
Evelyn’s POV
Once more, I try to break free of Kane’s hold, but he’s too strong and doesn’t budge. Clearly displeased with Kane touching me, Bianca’s gaze is warm on my face as she begins to scream.
“She’s insane!” Bianca claims, taking a step closer. I respond with a glare.
“Want to see just how insane I can be?” I ask, clearly not calmed down. “I’d be glad to kick your ass again.” I fight against Kane again, but he insists on keeping me bound tight.
This only bothers Bianca more as she takes in my words. Her “woe is me” act drops as she sneers at me.
“Why you -” she begins, but Kane cuts her off.
“Enough,” he snaps out, immediately causing Bianca to pout. Yet, he doesn’t console her as his attention turns to me.
“What exactly were you hoping to achieve with your little tantrum?” he asks into my ear, mocking me. I jerk against him in response, trying to elbow him in the stomach. My failed attempt makes him chuckle, the sound vibrating against my back.
“What is it that you want, Evelyn?” he repeats.
“You know what I want,” I tell him coldly. “I want you to reject me.”
Following my words, Kane suddenly spins me around, causing me to gasp as he moves me as if I weigh nothing. I’m left facing him, still unable to fully move as he holds my wrists together in front of me, binding me. His obvious strength over me fuels my
anger.
“If you keep refusing then I won’t stop,” I press. “I’ll cause a scene every single day until you agree.”
My threat clearly doesn’t faze him as Kane laughs right in my face. Our eyes stay locked as he gives my wrists a small squeeze.
“If you have the guts,” he states harshly. “Go ahead – run around day-after-day and destroy what you want. It won’t matter. My pack has the finances to just replace whatever you break during your little tantrums.”
Again, “little tantrums” adds to my anger, causing me to pull against him. Kane still doesn’t release me, just pulls me closer as he continues to speak.
“As for rejecting you,” he begins. “Keep dreaming.”
“You say that now,” I reply, biting out the words. “But eventually I’ll find something you actually care about and you’ll regret not rejecting me when I smash it to pieces,”
Still, Kane is not moved by my threat, Instead, he just takes the watch from my hand and slips it into his pocket. Then, he smiles.
“If that happens -” he begins.
“When it happens,” I interrupt, correcting him.
“If,” he insists back. “Then I’ll have my own way of handling it.”
My brows pull together, having no idea what that could mean. But Kane does nothing to help my confusion as he releases me, the heat of his hands still warm on my skin long after he lets go.
“For tonight, you’re grounded,” Kane informs me.
The absurdity of his words causes me to scoff.
“What?” I ask. “You can’t actually be serious.”
I’m a grown woman. His wife. Not some ten-year-old he adopted.

But Kane stays firm as his features remain stiff.
“Go back to your room and take some time to think,” he states.
“Think about what I’ve done and how sorry I am?” I mock sweetly.
“Think about whether you really want to keep causing trouble tomorrow,” Kane states coldly. “And remember – you’re not the only one who can make someone regret their decisions.”
Before I can offer a rebuttable, Kane’s hand is on my lower back and he gives me a gentle shove toward the door.
“Goodnight,” he presses. As much as I don’t want to give him the satisfaction, I also don’t want to be stuck in the same room with him anymore.
I don’t look back as I storm out of the room, bumping past Bianca who offers me a deadly glare as I leave. I go back to my room, mentally cursing Kane the entire time I get ready for bed. When I finally tuck in for the night, I’m still fuming.
