“So what’s the plan for tonight?” I ask him, noting that he hasn’t pulled out any weights or specific equipment. Perhaps we’re going to work on some cardio.
Kane moves on to stretch his other leg. “Climbing,” he states.
My brows raise. “Climbing?” I ask.
A hint of a smirk twitches on his lip, but Kane nods. His voice is still somehow level and serious. “I saw you trying to climb up to that window. Your form and strength were awful. We’ll work on both.”
I roll my eyes at his words, causing his smirk to slightly grow. Now I just want to swat him.
“Thanks for that boost in confidence,” I state flatly and I swear Kane tries to swallow a chuckle.
“Come on. Let’s get started,” Kane says after a few stretches, standing from the ground. I give him one last half- hearted glare as I join him.
He brings me to the corner of the room with multiple different ladders that go both vertical and horizontal. He pats the step of the ladder climbing upward, signaling for me to get on it.
I sigh, doing what he says I begin to climb up. Step by step, I make it up to the top where the horizontal ladder begins.
“Now across,” Kane orders.
“You make it sound so simple,” I toss at him.
“Isn’t it?” he asks, amused.
I snort, resisting the urge to call him a ‘smug asshole’ under my breath. My remark would probably earn me another night of sprints. Still, I’m indifferent as I reach for the first bar, not sure about this.
“Don’t worry, little wolf,” Kane begins from below. “I’ll catch you if you fall.”
He’s teasing me, toying with me like a little mouse. But I can’t help but note his tone – how there is humor within it rather than disapproval. That’s what it would have been in the past.
But now…it feels oddly different.
And yet, I find my own tone is similar as I reply back.
“Oh, lucky me,” I toss back, sarcastic and teasing. Still, I officially reach for the bar. Soon, both my hands are around it and I’m free hanging in the air, holding my entire weight.
Holy shit. I haven’t done the monkey bars in years, and it shows. I’m a fairly light person and there’s not much weight to hold, but it’s clear that my upper body strength is a joke.
I’m weak. It makes my teeth clench together as I reach for the next bar, my palms screaming out in protest. I’m using muscles I haven’t used in a long time, Maybe even since childhood.
“Breathe,” Kane says from below me, walking along with me as I move from one bar to the next. “Remember to use your momentum.”
Following his words, Kane’s hands then reach up and slide onto my waist. It takes everything in me not to let my hands slip off the bars due to the sudden contact.

But Kane doesn’t touch me for no reason. Instead, he uses his told to help push my weight, showing me how he wants me to swing. I quickly get the message, copying the movement as I go.
Wow, that really does help. As I go across again, it’s much easier to reach the other end and my palms don’t feel like they’re being ripped apart as bad.
“Good,” Kane says as he still follows me along. “That’s good.”
His hands are still on me, but he begins to slide them away, as if intending that I take over on my own. Only, I shift as he pulls away, making it so his touch collides with my body and he gets a perfect handful of my ass.
This time, his touch does make my body jump, my hands immediately slipping from the bar.
“Shit,” I breathe, and then I’m sailing down to the floor, anticipating my body slamming down onto the mats.
Only, it’s not the mats I crash into. Instead, I fall right down onto Kane, his arms wrapping around me as if to stop me. But due to my momentum, we both tumble to the floor together.
With a loud huff, Kane falls onto his back and I land right on top of him, As I stare down at his handsome face, heat begins to rush into my cheeks.
