That was a low blow, but until Ragnar is up and keeping his war–crazed father in line, I don’t have very many options. When I walk into his room, Aimee is waiting for me. No, not Aimee. Doctor Polucci.
“You are going to give me grey hairs, and you’re not even my kid,” she sneers and pats the bed. “Now, young lady.”
I let out a heavy sigh when I take a seat in front of her. She removes the tape holding down the IV tube and plugs me back in. I lay back, and she goes as far as taking my shoes off. I tilt my head to the left and see that Ragnar is sleeping peacefully.
The weight of what has just happened hits me like a tidal wave, and Aimee takes a seat beside me to hold my hand. I lay back, shutting my eyes. Everything. Fucking. Hurts. Not just my body, but I feel like screaming. Everything inside of me just wants me to scream, and I don’t know what else, but it feels horrible.
“Yeah,” Aimee says quietly. “It is not easy being half of that.”
“Soph?” We both look over at Ivar. He sneaks in and smiles at me. “Thank you for that. He’s sitting outside.”
“And my grandmother?”
“She’s also here. You know she’s not going to leave Kaylee,” he says and goes over to Ragnar. “I know you’re awake, bitch. Your mark flame is glowing.”
“Dick,” Ragnar says sleepily. “I was enjoying the peace and quiet without you around.”
“Her majesty here doesn’t think the vamps did it,” he says and drops into the chair beside him.
“What? Do you think they did? Are you fucking dumb?” he scoffs as the bed slowly rises. I laugh when I see the scowl on his face. Ivar opens his mouth and then clamps it shut with a loud clack of his teeth.
“Tell him what you guys did,” I urge him. Ragnar looks over at him with a glare.
“What?” he demands, already angry.
“You just woke up from surgery, Man,” he tries to move away from the bed, but Ragnar growls at him.
“Am I high on whatever you put in there?” I ask Aimee, laughing.
“Yeah, you’re going to get a little sleepy. You need proper rest, my lady,” she pets me like a puppy.
“They arrested the vampire king and his princess,” I inform him before I completely lose it.
“Are you fucking serious? Where is he?” he shouts.
Ivar jumps out of his seat and rushes out to get his father. He sighs and sits up, removing his sheets, Aimee tries to stop him when he rips out the empty IV and stands. He reaches down to take the bandage off his abdomen.
There’s a faint scar right over the centre of his belly, and it works to define the crease of his eight–pack. I am definitely high because it’s all I can see. He looks amazing for someone who just got out of surgery. As someone who has had eight and did not look like that, I get mad.
“You’re ridiculous,” I huff.
Aimee let’s a little snort, and when he looks over at her, she pats my shoulder and bails without saying a word. He smirks and comes around to take the spot Aimee had when he was still pretending to sleep.

“I loved that fish tank,” he says, taking one of my hands between his.
“It almost killed you,” I shake my

“Baby, you used the water from the tank to take out the flames and help me enough to get me here. It’s why it’s there. I can’t just have a fucking tank of water without putting something in it. I like watching them swim around. They don’t know how fortunate they are, swimming around their little kingdom I made them.”
“You put it there in case something like that happened? I didn’t even think of that.”
I could just kiss him right now.
“I read that your affinity is a gentle one, but it can be mighty. Being around this much water is healthy for you. Mentally and for your affinity. And yes, I figured if something like what happened when I would sneak off with you were to happen again while we were here. The fucking answer was right there.”
“I love you,” I say, reaching out for him. He leans in so I can place my cold hand on his face. He smiles and instantly warms his skin to help. He takes my hand in his when his father clears his throat.
“Let them out,” Ragnar says calmly. “You know it wasn’t them. What’s going on?”
“There were no casualties. It was just your suite that went off. We evacuated everyone as a precaution. That little girl was in there with her before this thing went off,” he shouts while pointing at me. Ragnar takes that personally and stands abruptly. I squeeze his hand and shake my head.
“Don’t,” I manage to choke out despite how woozy whatever Aimee gave me is making me. -He was scared, my King. He needed someone to blame. Calm down.-
-He just disrespected the Vampire king and his daughter. She could have gotten hit herself. The two of you could have died.-
–I’m right here,– I squeeze his hand as much as I can. He lets out a heavy sigh and drops his shoulders when he looks down at me. -It’s better for her to be where she is than in one of these things.-
“What the fuck is happening?” the King asks. I snort, forgetting that they can’t do that.
“It wasn’t them, Dad. I know this is the second time, but vampires wouldn’t resort to something like this. Fangs is nuts, but he would never use his daughter like that, and she’s not like him. She’s a lot like Katherine. You know that,” Ragnar says, trying to stay calm. “Let them out so they can help us figure out how the hell someone snuck a fucking bomb in our bedroom.”
The King looks between the two of us and nods. He steps closer to me and takes my other hand. I remember that I’m mad at him and pull it away. He gives me that are you kidding me look. I’ve seen him give this same look to my grandmother when she’s being difficult, and it’s kind of funny that it’s directed at me.
“You were so mean to me earlier. That wasn’t very nice. You need to go to the therapy lady on your own before you try convincing anyone to love you the way you are.”
He stiffens and then blinks so fast I almost miss it.
“She’s heavily sedated at the moment,” Ragnar laughs.
“She’s right,” he sighs. “I am very sorry for the way I acted, Sophie.”
“Issokay. I just performed surgery on your son with the mother of all concussions. I’m sorry too,” I slur.
“Even seeing sixteen, I’d trust you to piece me back together,” Ragnar smirks.
“You heard that?”

“Yeah, I needed you, and I swear no matter where I was, your voice and your presence were right there.”
“Oh, the water,” I nod.

“Yeah,” he laughs. “The water. It may have had a little of your blood in it. I don’t know what it is, but I swear our bond is stronger than it’s ever been.”
I stare at him long enough for my eyes to get insanely heavy. I rub my face and think back to the way Ana has been acting, and I how know I can trust her despite her showing quite the opposite.
“What are you thinking?” he asks. “That’s your I discovered something I hate face.”
“The water in Ana. Do you think it works the same way in her?” I lay back trying to relax.
“Oh, shit,” he clears his throat. “I hope not exactly because I’d have to kill her.”
I laugh, looking up at him. By the look on his face, I know he’s completely serious about that. As I start to fade, all I can do is thank whatever Lycan god is watching over us because I was terrified. I honest to Lycan God thought I was going to lose him. I don’t know how I kept moving or how I was able to hold it together the way I did, but looking at him now as he argues with his father, I’m grateful that I did.
“If you die,” I poke his side. “I’m killing everyone and then myself.”
“Yo,” Ivar laughs somewhere in the room. I wasn’t aware he was in here.
“She’s serious,” Ragnar sighs. “And she can do it. All she needs to do is make you cry or spit. I understand why Ana got very quiet after you told her you were already inside her,” he places his hand over his chest. “You’re scary.”
“Fucking wolves fumbled this one hard,” Ivar scoffs. “I’ll make sure he’s good. Kenny and her wives are watching over the City. They have a baby now.”
“Her name is Marie,” I hear myself whisper. “I want to see.”
