Chapter 267

Chapter 267

Right in front of Kevin, Leo called someone and told them to check if Mavis and her daughter had anyone backing them behind the scenes.

He also asked them to investigate whether anyone around him was acting suspiciously.

He then instructed a trusted cousin from the Hammond family to arrange a paternity test between him and Nicole.

He handed over a strand of his own hair, and had already asked the servants to collect a strand of Nicole’s hair.

Once Leo finished giving orders, Kevin asked, “Dad, are we going home now?”

Leo waved him off. “I’m staying at the office tonight. Not going back.”

He had a private lounge set up in his office.

Honestly, he just really didn’t want to deal with Mavis and her daughter tonight.

Kevin didn’t push it. “Alright.”

Kevin figured that by giving Mavis and her daughter the cold shoulder, his dad was making them restless enough to mess up all on their own.

After thinking for a moment, Leo added, “By the way, all that trouble Mavis’s ex caused- someone’s got to be behind it. Check if it’s Jason or Ally.”

The trending topic couldn’t be taken down, Mavis’s ex-husband’s account couldn’t be banned, and the video just wouldn’t disappear.

There was no way that guy had the power to make all that happen on his own-someone else had to be behind it.

No matter how he thought about it, the only people who came to mind were Jason and Alicia.

Kevin figured it was probably Alicia and Jason behind it. “If it turns out they did it, what are you gonna do, Dad?”

If it really was Alicia, Leo and her brothers couldn’t actually do anything to her.

Honestly, after she exposed Mavis and her daughter for what they really are, Kevin didn’t think Alicia did anything wrong.

Leo was caught off guard by the question.

A wry smile appeared on his face. “Yeah, what can I really do?”

‘She’s my own daughter-what am I supposed to do, go after her? No way.

‘Honestly, if this whole mess hadn’t blown up, we never would’ve found out what Mavis was really doing,’ he thought.

He waved his hand. “Forget it. Let’s just leave it at that.

“You can go. I want to be alone for a while.”

Kevin stood up. “Alright, Dad. If you need anything, just call me.”

Now that he knew where his dad stood, there was no point in sticking around.

Back in his own office, he set up a three-way call and filled his two younger brothers in on what he’d found out.

He told them to keep their cool and not do anything rash.

Then he gave Jason a call.

When Kevin called, Alicia was hanging out at Jason’s place.

Jason was back in the kitchen today.

Alicia had just washed the veggies, and Jason was chopping away.

Seeing Kevin’s call come in, Jason picked up and put it on speaker so Alicia could hear too.

“What’s up, Kevin?” Jason asked.

Kevin got straight to the point. “Can you put Ally on? I need to talk to her about something

with our mom.”

Jason glanced over at Alicia.

Alicia spoke up. “What about Mom?”

Hearing her voice, Kevin paused, surprised. “You’re with Jason?”

‘Those two sure seem tight. They’re always together.

‘Jason’s usually ice-cold, but he acts totally different around Alicia. Guy must have a crush on

her.

‘And Alicia’s actually letting him get close, which is pretty unusual for her.

Who knows how far they’ve taken things already,’ Kevin wondered.

But he was smart enough not to ask.

Alicia said, “Go ahead, I’m listening.”

She still cared about anything related to her mom.

Kevin could sense how distant Alicia was, and it stung.

Today, they finally saw Mavis and her daughter’s true colors. They realized they’d been blaming Alicia for things she never did, and felt awful about it.

He knew trying to appeal to her feelings wouldn’t work-she might just hang up on him. “Today, I reached out to…”

He explained to Alicia why he contacted the lawyer and shared what the lawyer had told him.

He reminded her, “When you have time, go see the lawyer and get the key to the bank safe deposit box.”

As Alicia listened, her eyes welled up and her voice caught. “Thanks for telling me. I’ll go.”

Her heart ached with longing for her mom.

Kevin’s heart twisted at the sound of Alicia’s choked voice, but he understood.

Alicia had always been the one most attached to their mom, always clinging to her and staying by her side right up until the end.

No one loved Mom more than she did.
