That day, Lina was wheeled into the operating room. Jacob reluctantly signed the critical-condition notice.
He went to Margaret and bowed deeply, his head nearly touching the ground.
“Grandma! Please save my love! If something happens to Lina, I won’t go on living!
“She grew up by your side. You can’t just abandon her! Find Mia! Only she can save Lina. I’m begging you!”
Margaret could not bear to see her favorite grandson so desperate. She turned to Ethan and snapped, “Useless fool! Search every corner until you find her!”
Ethan frowned and said nothing.
Mark lowered his head and spoke politely, “Mrs. Hale, we’ve exhausted every lead for three months. We truly can’t find her.”
Margaret was so angry she ground her teeth. She called Ethan worthless over and over.
More than ten hours later, Lina was out of surgery.
The surgeon stumbled out, soaked in sweat. “One more time, and I couldn’t have saved her. Don’t call me for the next operation. I’m at my limit. Sorry.”
That same night, the doctor fled abroad.
Half an hour later, Margaret and the family surrounded the hospital director’s office. Also present were doctors and nurses who had been close to Mia.
Margaret sat firmly across the desk and slammed it hard.
“Thirty million dollars. I’ll donate 30 million for new equipment. Just bring Mia back. Tell her to treat Lina
at once!”
The director, usually easy-going, was cold and stern.
He laughed sharply. “Funny, Just funny.”
He turned to the cardiac surgeon Chloe beside him. “Thirty million? Our doctors aren’t paid much, but if Mia were still here, this hospital would be world-famous. Thirty million?”
The director held up five fingers.
Margaret frowned. “What’s that mean?”
“I’ll give you 50 million,” the director said calmly, “You find Mia for me. Or find another doctor half as good. Deal?”
Margaret’s face turned dark. “Compassion and healing are your hospital’s rules! Have you conscience?”

He picked up his cup and drank slowly, refusing to say another word.

The head nurse folded her hands and smiled calmly. “We did all we could. Finding people isn’t our job. Sir, you should install cameras in here. Otherwise, someone might blame you for things you didn’t do.”
Chloe nodded. “Good idea. The kind Mia used would be perfect!”
Just then, the office door opened. The head nurse called for workers to install cameras immediately.
Margaret was so furious her blood pressure skyrocketed.
Within a month, the Hale family used every connection they had. But they found not a single trace of Mia.
Lina was critically ill. The whole family fell into chaos.
Just as everyone was at a loss, two women walked by chatting happily.
“Why hasn’t your baby been crying lately?”
“I know! An amazing new female doctor at Harmony Clinic is a genius. She’s young but incredibly skilled. She saw my baby’s night terrors right away, gave three simple medicines, and it worked instantly. They say she’s descended from a legendary old healer.”
Their voices faded.
“Really? What’s her name?”
“Oh… it’s on the tip of my tongue. I forgot.”
When they reached the elevator, the woman slapped her forehead. “Her name’s Mia!”
Inside the hospital room, Ethan only caught the first few words. He frowned thoughtfully.
“Female healer… descended from a legend…”
Elaine scoffed. “Female doctors? What good are they? The best ones are always men. Women spend years in school, then marry and have kids. How many patients can they treat? People these days just fake big names. Claim they’re descended from some old legend to sound impressive.
“Ridiculous!”
She no longer bothered to pretend. Ethan hadn’t believed her lies after the video leaked.
Jacob sat on the sofa, staring at Lina’s pale face. He was worried and angry.
“Where the hell is Mia? Even if she’s dead, there should be news! How can she just disappear? She’s ruining Lina’s life! It’s unforgivable!
“When I find her, I’ll teach her a lesson! She has no heart as a doctor!”
