Chapter 4
The Imprinting ceremony was set for three days later.
To keep me from “making trouble,” Damian had the guards lock me in the temple dressing room early that day.
Isabelle whined that her wedding dress was too heavy and that she could not fasten the silver-threaded straps of her heels by herself.
“Mrs. Ashford, help me.”
Damian frowned slightly and glanced at me on instinct.
I lowered my eyes, crouched down, lifted the layers of her skirt, and put the shoes on her feet.
Damian watched me with a complicated expression. His lips pressed together as if he wanted to say
something, but Isabelle gently pushed his shoulder.
“Damian, I’m thirsty. Can you get me a glass of orange juice?”
Damian smiled, rubbed her hair, and left the room.
The moment the door closed, Isabelle kicked me hard in the chest.
She looked down at me with a venomous smile.
“Selena Lane, you didn’t seriously think I was just some little Omega clinging to an Alpha, did
you?”
“You probably don’t know this, but Damian Ashford and I have been together for almost ten years.”
When she saw the shock in my eyes, her smile grew wilder.
“He said I was too young and shouldn’t suffer with him through the Pack’s hardship. So he dated
me and only Imprinted you.”
“He was always afraid he owed me. The first money he ever earned, the money he told you had been stolen by debt-collecting Rogues, was actually spent at a Paris auction on limited-edition moonstone jewelry for me. Every time I felt wronged, he had those Rogues put on another
debt-collection act, and all that money turned into my jewels.”
“One point eight million dollars in total.”

“Oh, and there was one worthless bracelet. I lost it later.”
My whole body shook.
One point eight million dollars.
That was the money I had earned with my small body on human factory assembly lines for years.
At my most exhausted, I once collapsed on the conveyor belt and was nearly dragged into the press.
When Damian heard about it, he held me while trembling and kept saying it was his fault.
How ridiculous I had been back then. I had patted his back and smiled as I told him I did not blame
him.’
It had all been fake.
He had been lying to me the whole time.
Isabelle kept talking.
“Later, when you got pregnant for the first time, I was so angry that I refused to let him touch me. So he staged a little scene with an Alpha from a rival pack, tricked you into attending a banquet, and had your wine poisoned. The night you miscarried, he called me and said, ‘Don’t be mad at him. That pup should never have been born anyway.””
Her words were like a blunt silver nail hammered into my skull.
My vision went black.
Isabelle’s face twisted with sudden ferocity.
“But even though he loves me that much, he still refuses to sever your Imprint and make me his
formal mate.”
“You are only relying on his soft heart and his nostalgia. You are using those years you spent beside
him to stand above me.
She laughed softly, cold and sinister.
“Tell me, if Damian believed you harmed the baby in my belly, would he still care about that little bond between you?”
Every hair on my body stood up. I turned and ran for the door.

Behind me came a loud crash.
Isabelle lifted a champagne bottle and smashed it hard against her own stomach.
Then she screamed at the top of her lungs, “Damian, save me!”
The dressing room door was kicked open.
Damian rushed in, grabbed my wrist, and threw me onto the marble floor.
His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at Isabelle lying in a pool of blood.
“It wasn’t me-”
His hand closed around my throat, cutting off my defense.
With red eyes, he roared at me, “Selena Lane, you wouldn’t even spare an unborn pup. You disgust
me.”
“You killed Isabelle’s child. Then don’t blame me for touching your dead parents.”
Through my horrified tears, he gave the order.
“Go. Dig up Selena’s parents’ graves. Grind their bones into powder and flush them into the sewer.”
“No!”
I screamed, “Damian Ashford, you madman. This is human property. There are cameras here. Check them yourself.”
Isabelle staggered up from the blood and stumbled toward the window.
“The baby is gone. What is the point of living? I might as well die.”
“Mrs. Ashford, you can frame me however you want.”
Damian’s face changed in panic. He shoved me aside and rushed over to hold her.
Then he looked back at me with a cold, severe expression.
“Selena, you have used up the last of my affection. You harmed my beloved and my child. I will not let you off.”
“Send her to the dungeon,” he ordered the pack guards coldly. “Tell the guards inside to take good
care of her.”
