Trent lit a cigarette and fastened his belt.
“You’re seriously leaving?” Aria sat up in bed, hugging the sheet to her chest, pouting. “You
promised you’d spend the whole day with me. I only agreed to hold off on the certificate because
you said you would. And now you’re just taking off?”
“I gotta.” Trent grabbed his jacket. “She gave me three minutes. If I’m not there, you know how she
gets…”
“How she gets?” Aria rolled her eyes. “Isn’t she supposed to be the understanding one?”
“She is. But today’s different.” Trent checked himself in the mirror, fixing his collar. “I promised
her the wedding of the century.”
“Then what are you doing here with me?”
“Because you wouldn’t shut up about it.” He smirked, walked over, and pinched her cheek. “Be
good. I’ll be back tonight.”
Aria shoved his hand away and turned her back. “So when are we getting the certificate?”
“We’ll see.” He grabbed his phone from the nightstand.
The screen lit up. Messages exploded.
The group chat was blowing up. Voice note after voice note. The last one was a video from Tyler.
He frowned and tapped it.
His eyes went wide.
“What?” Aria turned and saw his face. She flinched.
Trent’s hand shook slightly.
In the video, a woman in a white gown smiled.
Then the camera panned to a man with a “Groom” corsage pinned to his chest.
They looked like they were having their own wedding.
But that dress,

“No.”
He muttered it to himself.
Sloane had been his for ten years. What man would be okay with that?

Sloane was capable and beautiful, sure. But she came from nothing.
Her father just ran some small business in Fairmont Bay.
There was no way Declan would lower himself to marry some random girl with no family name.
And besides, Trent knew better than anyone how much Sloane loved him.
When the Harrisons went under, they became the most hated family in Port Ellis.
Creditors showed up every day to spraypaint the walls. No one would help him.
He fell apart, drowning himself in bars every night. Sloane stepped in, risked everything, cashed out her own savings, knelt in front of him, and said, “You still have me.”

Trent forced himself to calm down and called Tyler.
The phone rang forever before Tyler picked up. It was chaos on his end.
People screaming, arguing, a total mess.
“Trent…” Tyler’s voice sounded distant, like he was still in shock.
“What the hell is going on?” Trent practically yelled. “Why is that man at my wedding to Sloane? You know she hates him more than anyone!”
Three seconds of silence.
