Chapter 7
Tyler ran to him like he’d seen a savior.
“Trent, she… she walked the whole aisle with Declan. I couldn’t stop her.”
He gasped for air, his voice cracking. “Good thing you saw that video I sent and came…”
That video was the one Tyler had shot from the side aisle.
In it, the aisle stretched on forever.
I walked toward Declan. And then I reached out and put my hand in his.
Trent knew better than anyone.
I hated Declan even more than he did.
At this wedding, I was supposed to throw Declan out.
But I didn’t.
And the way I looked at Declan…
Trent had never seen me look at another man like that in his life.
The priest stood frozen, book in hand.
I didn’t turn around. I just said, “Please continue.”
Soft. But it made Trent’s face go white.
“Sloane!”
He stormed up the aisle. “Have you lost your damn mind?”
His eyes held anger, disbelief… And something else he tried hard to hide. Panic.
“What kind of show are you putting on?” His voice dropped, but the tremble in his throat wouldn’t stay down. “I’ve known you for ten years. You think I don’t know you?”
“Do you have any idea who that guy is? He could have any trust-fund babies he wants. Why would he pick you?”
“You’re up there hanging on his arm, what, trying to make me jealous? Or you want the whole

city to laugh at you?”
He let out a cold laugh, his eyes sweeping from my face to Declan’s.
“Don’t let him use you and walk away thinking you won.”
He stepped closer. That voice, the one I’d heard for a decade, full of certainty.
“Come down right now, and today never happened.”
“I’ll throw you another wedding. You’ll still be Mrs. Harrison.”
He lifted his chin.
Waiting for me to run crying into his arms.
The church went silent.
I turned and looked at him.
This man I’d loved for ten years. Tolerated for ten years. Lowered myself to dust for, and never gotten an ounce of respect in return.
And then I smiled.
Alight, weightless smile, like I’d finally figured something out.
I turned to Declan.
Rose on my toes, hooked my arms around his neck, and pulled his head down and kissed him.
The moment my lips touched his, I felt his body freeze for a split second.
Only a split second.
Then his hand slid to my waist, locked around me, and pulled me hard against him.
Like a beast that had held back forever and finally got what it wanted.
No more control. No more games. Just a hard, deep kiss that stole my breath.
Gasps echoed through the church,
The older guests covered their eyes, totally embarrassed. The younger ones looked like they’d
just stumbled onto something behind a paywall.

Chapter 7
Trent’s voice came out like a strangled chicken. “Sloane!!!”
I ignored him.
Declan pulled back first.
His breathing was still heavy.
He ran his thumb across
My lips. When he spoke, his voice was wrecked. “You started it.”
He paused. Then a slow smile spread across his face. Those dark eyes finally had light in them. The kind of light that burned. “This time,” he said, “I’m not letting you go.
He tilted his head toward the security guards behind him. “Show Mr. Harrison out.”
