Chapter 6
Divorce papers?
Signed by both parties?
Vincent snapped back to his senses.
He dialed Isabella’s number immediately.
Busy signal.
He called again, still getting a busy tone.
He switched to iMessage, only for a glaring red exclamation mark to pop up. He had been completely blocked on every
single social media platform.
“All this over Lena?” he sneered at the unanswered phone, “Isabella, is that seriously all it takes? This isn’t even the first
time!”
Lena was still standing barefoot on the hotel carpet. Seeing his reaction, she tugged gently at his cuff, “What’s wrong? Is
she throwing another fit again?”
Vincent whipped his head around to look at her. That gaze made Lena flinch. But she quickly plastered on her usual
sweet smile and pressed herself against him, “Forget about her, okay? She’ll get used to it sooner or later. Didn’t you say
last time that Isabella’s greatest strength is… being… obedient?”
She drew out the last three words soft and slow, laced with the smug contempt of someone gloating over a defeated rival.
For the past three months, Vincent had loved hearing her talk about Isabella like this. Every time she whispered in his
ear. “Your Donna is so obedient“, he would laugh low and kiss her, murmuring, “That’s why she’ll always be my woman-
Vincent Vitale’s woman.” But this time, Vincent slowly pulled his sleeve away from her grasp.
“Who gave you permission to call her by her first name? Don’t you know how to address the Donna of the family?”
His tone was deceptively calm, but it carried a bone–chilling authority Lena had never encountered before.
Lena froze.
“I..” She blinked, quickly shifting to a wronged, pouting expression, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have called Donna Isabella by
her first name directly. I just saw you were angry, and I wanted to cheer you up, that’s all.” She pressed closer again, her
fingers slipping under his shirt, “Don’t be mad. It’s not worth getting upset over some old hag. She’s already twenty–seven,
how can she compare to how young I am-‘
“Shut up.”

She married for love, but he wed her to save his first love. Heartbroken, she…
The two words were quiet, not even spoken at a raised volume, but they made Lena’s hand freeze mid–air.
Vincent looked down to straighten his crumpled cuff. When he lifted his eyes, the icy frost in his gaze cut straight to her
marrow.
“Listen,” he tilted her chin up with his hand, his movement gentle but his tone the exact opposite. “A well–behaved little canary has no right to comment on anything concerning the Donna of this family. You tramps only get to breathe
because she can’t be bothered to waste energy on the likes of you! Understand?”
Lena’s lips trembled slightly. “But, but you said before-”
Said what?” Vincent cut her off. “That my wife is old and washed up? That she’s good for nothing except clinging to her
itle?
With every word he spoke, Lena’s face turned a shade paler. He had indeed said all those things–between the sheets, in the heat of passion, when she whined about not being able to claim their relationship publicly.
Those words,” Vincent released his grip, pulled a handkerchief from the inner pocket of his suit, and slowly wiped the ingers that had just touched her, “are nothing more than empty talk for outsiders like you to overhear.”
The handkerchief drifted lightly to the floor at her feet.
Lena went completely rigid.
Pack your things, and get out of this suite before dawn.” Vincent stood up, his voice returning to its usual lazy drawl, “My nen will give you a card with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life.”
Vincent!” Lena screamed and lunged at him, “You can’t do this! I’m carrying your baby-”
That thing in your stomach,” he sidestepped her, glanced back at her with a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his
mouth, “is it really mine?”
Lena’s face crumpled instantly–he wasn’t going to claim it?
“Be good‘ Vincent reached out and ruffled her hair like he was petting a stray dog, ‘take the money and keep your head down. Don’t make me teach you how to behave personally.”
He grabbed his coat to leave
Lena clung to his leg desperately. “No, you can’t! I already had an abortion for you once, the doctor said it I have a second one I’ll never be able to carry a child to term-
“That’s your problem” He kicked her off roughly. “Right now my Donna is upset, so you have to disappear Understand”
The door opened and shut.

perc later she returns as a top surgeon and planist with a powerful…
Lena collapsed to the floor. Staring at the crumpled handkerchief on the floor, she finally understood that the victory
and devotion she had deluded herself into having were nothing more than tools this man used to goad his wife. Now that the tools had served their purpose, they were discarded like trash without a second thought.
