The Idiot Wife’s Revenge
His voice was firm. “Grandpa, I’m taking Mona to the hospital myself.”
Before he’d even finished, he strode through the stunned crowd.
I leaned against Maverick’s chest, and my thoughts drifted back to my previous life–to the engagement party that was supposed to be for him and me.
Back then, it was Sophia, slow–minded, who suddenly rushed up and knocked over the cake.
I saw her standing amid the frosting and glass shards.
Worried she might hurt herself, I tried to comfort her, but she shoved me away with all her
strength.
We both fell to the ground.
‘Blood! Blood!”
Sophia held up her finger, sliced by a shard, and wailed.
When Maverick heard the commotion and hurried over, his first instinct was to bend down and
help me. “Mona, are you okay?!”
His brow furrowed, eyes full of concern for me.
But the next second, a scolding voice rang out.
‘Mav! Can’t you see Sophia is bleeding?!”
Larry’s cane slammed against the floor.
Maverick froze.
He looked at me, then at the sobbing, “pitiful” Sophia.
A flicker of conflict crossed his eyes.
Finally, after Larry coughed, he gave me an apologetic look and turned to help Sophia up.
But Sophia wrapped her arms around his neck and refused to let go.
Left with no choice, Maverick carried her out in his arms, leaving under the watchful, sympathetic eyes of the guests.
That night, our engagement party ended abruptly.

“I’m sorry, Mona.
“Most of the guests yesterday were Grandpa’s friends. Everyone knows about my family and
the Kincaid family, and they know Sophia ended up like this because of me…
“I had to take care of her first, or people would talk.”
Maverick said Sophia was so shaken, she clung to him all night.
And Larry had made it clear–Maverick couldn’t leave until Sophia was comforted.
So he waited until she finally fell asleep before rushing back to me.
Maverick held me in his arms, sighing helplessly.
I looked at the pale blue fatigue in his eyes.
Even though I felt so wronged, I remembered Sophia was just “a fool” now.
And so I nodded, trying to understand.

‘May, Mav!”
My memories were interrupted by a sobbing voice.
glanced over Maverick’s shoulder and saw Sophia stumbling after us, clutching her dress.
