Chapter 94 Who’s the Problem Here?Â
Toby really hadn’t interfered with either of the kids’ friendships at school.Â
He pointed at himself, eyebrow slightly raised, trying to sort out this sudden chain of accusations. “I clearly said you could just take my friends.Â
“But you also said you didn’t need them and told me to keep them myself.”Â
How was that his fault?Â
“Oh, it’s not you. Nothing to do with you.” Maya said. “I meant you! Alfred!”Â
Alfred.blinked twice quietly, thinking over what bad things he might’ve done recently, before answering slowly, “I didn’t do anything wrong.”Â
The boy tilted his face up, lips pressed together, looking completely unrepentant.Â
“Really?” Maya leaned in and tugged his cheek. “You’re gonna say you didn’t secretly throw away my gifts?”Â
Setting aside the whole “female protagonist aura” situation that had triggered a series of events, under normal circumstances, neither of them was actually that unpopular at Harmony International School.Â
That was just how the international program worked-social circles were largely based on family background.Â
After everyone who provoked them ended up getting expelled, no one knew what rumors had spread, but people seemed to think Maya’s family background was deeply mysterious. Some girls even started bringing her small gifts.Â
It was their way of trying to befriend her.Â
And Alfred would immediately tell them to get lost and casually throw the gifts away.Â
“Friends are useless,” Alfred even doubled down, deciding to lecture Maya instead. “Dad said it himself. Friends are just people who betray you.”Â
Betraying friends was something Raymond could do without hesitation.Â
To him, his former colleagues weren’t even really people-just useful tools.Â
So by that logic, everyone in the international program was just useless trash.Â
No point in making friends, as they were a waste of time.Â
“I was helping you,” Alfred said seriously, even sounding a little proud.Â
“Right.” Toby finally smiled faintly. When it came to educating Maya, he seemed to finally find his role as anÂ
older brother.Â
In a calm, experienced tone, he lectured her, “Friends only count as friends if they’re useful. What’s the point of keeping people who waste your time, drain your energy, and give you nothing in return?Â

“I usually just call those useless beings enemies.”Â
To him, useless meant sin, and draining meant hostility.Â
So what friends?Â
Those were enemies.Â
Maya sighed in defeat.Â
Her tone was full of shock. “I never thought the most messed-up ones in this family would be you two.”Â
Toby and Alfred barely ever interacted before.Â
But the moment they got together on the topic of “how to distort Maya’s social life,” they suddenly became long-lost intellectual soulmates, talking nonstop.Â
What the hell was going on?Â
Did they grow up listening to bedtime stories like “How to Become Harmful to Society”?Â
“I’m going to strangle both of you.”Â
She shouted.Â
Maya didn’t bother reasoning. She grabbed one, then the other, shaking them back and forth in frustration.Â
Toby clutched his neck. He was very ticklish, so he curled away to the side.Â
After being shaken twice, he almost laughed until tears came out. “You really have a bad temper.”Â
Just a couple of words, and she was already exploding.Â
Alfred wasn’t ticklish. Even with Maya dramatically grabbing his neck, he just stared blankly without muchÂ
reaction.Â
After a moment, he calmly concluded, “It’s fine. It’s normal for a little sister to have a temper.”Â
As an older brother, he should be more tolerant.Â
Toby rolled his eyes.Â
This younger brother wasn’t that smart most of the time.Â
But whenever it came to Maya, he somehow became extremely good at pretending to be dumb.Â
After the little “warm family moment,” life still required the three exhausted students to go to bed early.Â
After all, school was still waiting for them the next day.Â
“I don’t want to go to school… I don’t want to go… I want to sleep… Mom!”Â

The next morning, because they had slept too late, Maya buried her head under the blanket and tried to stay in bed.Â
“Good kids should start the day full of energy!” Wendy said brightly.Â
She was someone who genuinely loved life. She kept a lot of plants, but Raymond kept overwatering them until they all died.Â
She also loved cooking, and she was always full of enthusiasm every day.Â
Maya struggled one last time.Â
“Five more minutes.Â
“Just five minutes, please, Mom.”Â
Her voice was soft and half-asleep, like a kitten. Wendy immediately got hit emotionally, covering her mouth as her smile broke through. “Alright, alright. I’ll come back in five minutes.”Â
“Okay!”Â
But after five minutes of sleep, she asked for another five.Â
And then another. And another. All those “five more minutes” made her and Alfred late for school.Â
The teacher didn’t say much, just waved them in.Â
Maya sighed in relief, sat down at her seat, and immediately felt something was off.Â
