Chapter 496
Genny could tell a lot just from the way Hayley was acting.
The Finley Group’s recent transformation had been so successful that it was putting pressure on all sides.
Genny’s family business hadn’t felt any impact yet, but if the Finley Group made a comeback, their market share would definitely get squeezed.
“I was wondering how those two sisters managed to turn around a company that had been losing money for years in such a short time. It turns out they’ve latched onto Daron,” Genny said.
“Hayley, you practically raised Daron. You need to help Wilhelmina keep an eye on things. Don’t let all the good stuff she left behind end up in someone else’s hands.”
As she spoke, Genny shot a vicious glare in Marina’s direction.
Genny had a daughter around Zara’s age.
Back then, Genny had wanted Hayley to set her daughter up with Daron, but he shot the idea down, claiming her daughter was too young.
Genny still held a grudge about it to this day.
After seeing all the online gossip lately, Genny thought Hayley was being selfish. But she never expected Hayley to actually get kicked out of the Zamora family over it.
Only then did Genny finally let go of her suspicions.
Hayley let out a quiet sigh and said softly, “Let’s drop it. If Daron likes her, just let him be.”
Hayley quickly switched topics, and when she caught Genny eyeing Elnora’s finger now and then, she knew she’d achieved her aim.
It didn’t take long before Genny was whispering the news to her little clique.
The Blanchard family had been a big name in Vrufield for generations, and since they were in–laws with the Zamora family, everyone who showed up was either a big shot or some kind of VIP.
Genny started whispering the news around her circle, and sure enough, it didn’t take long before Bette and Durif heard about it.
Durif glanced over at Bette and saw her looking completely unfazed. He instantly realized she was already in the know.
“Are you trying to keep me on my toes?” Durif said, his voice full of fond exasperation.
Bette couldn’t help but smile at Durif’s affectionate scolding.
“Grandpa, you guys really kept me in the dark,” Bette complained.
“I had to swallow my pride and apologize that day, so of course I had to get even. You’ve always taught me that a gentleman never lets a grudge go unavenged.”
Durif shot Bette a wry, resigned look, and she gave him a fawning smile.
Durif glanced in Daron’s direction and said seriously, “Have you talked to Daron about this?”

Bette arched her brow, not bothering to look Daron’s way.

She spoke with a fearless air. “Talk to him about what? The Campbell family shelled out a fortune to buy that pink diamond for Elnora. Am I supposed to tell Elnora not to wear it?
“And if Hayley wants to smear Marina, does that mean I put Hayley up to it? I’m actually curious to see how Daron tries to blame me for this one.”
Seeing the stubborn look on Bette’s face, Durif knew she was set on putting on a show today.
Durif had heard about some of the underhanded things Hayley had been pulling behind the scenes all these years.
Hayley always used her past kindness to keep Daron under her thumb.
Durif didn’t want to see Daron getting pressured like that.
If this could finally let Daron act without restraint, it would be one less headache for everyone.
Durif gave a dismissive wave and said in a mild tone, “Looks like you’ve got it all planned out, so I’ll leave it to you.”
Now that Durif had given his approval, Bette’s smile grew even brighter.
“Grandpa, I just knew you’d always be on my side,” Bette said.
Durif looked at Bette, her face so much like Wilhelmina’s, and smiled.
“Go ahead. Whatever happens, I’ll cover for you,” Durif said.
When Wilhelmina passed away, she was about as old as Bette was now. So naturally, Durif absolutely doted on Bette.
Bette acted cute in front of Durif, then headed over to Elnora.
Seeing that Bette had already caught wind of the news, Genny immediately dragged Hayley along to watch the show.
Hayley furrowed her brows, worry written all over her face, and hurriedly said to Genny, “Genny, did you just repeat everything I said?”
“Well…” Genny faltered.
Noticing how nervous Hayley was, Genny quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry. We’ve been close friends for years. I’d never betray you.
“I merely got everyone to notice the pink diamond on Elnora’s finger. And I kind of hinted that there’s something more going on between Daron and Marina.”
Everyone in this crowd was sharp as a tack. Even if Genny didn’t spell it out, they’d figure it out in a heartbeat.
Hayley was reassured by Genny’s words.
Everyone in the room was waiting for Bette to call Elnora out.
But Bette only called Elnora and Marina over for a private talk.
When Hayley saw Elnora and Marina follow Bette out, panic flashed across her face.

As she listened to Genny, Hayley couldn’t help but feel a sudden rush of panic.
Genny kept going on and on right next to her.
“Honestly, how could Elnora be so stupid as to be flaunting Wilhelmina’s ring at Durif’s birthday party? Does she think nobody in our circle would recognize it? Or was she just so full of herself that she couldn’t help showing off?”
Genny’s words suddenly made Hayley realize something.
Hayley’s face went ghostly white as it hit her. Back when Harris told her to hand the key over to Marina, Elnora had tagged along into the collection room.

But Durif was standing right next to Daron, talking to him with a serious expression.

Seeing the look in Daron’s eyes, Hayley realized she’d fallen straight into an elaborate trap that was set up just for her.
She gritted her teeth and looked up, only to see Elnora standing right next to Bette, both of them holding wine glasses and watching her with smirks on their faces,
They looked smug, as if they had succeeded in some plan. That superior air made Hayley feel a cold chill crawl over her
