At least Harris hadn’t thrown me out of the Zamora family for good. That’s something, Matthew thought to himself.
Matthew let out a silent sigh and just sat there, keeping to himself.
Harris quickly brought up the topic of electing a new CEO for Zamora Group.
The shareholders all put Daron’s name forward.
Daron waved them off.
“I’ve still got Cloudstorm Group to manage, and it’s only just getting started. There’s already too much on my plate, so I really can’t take on Zamora Group as well,” he said.
I think it’s best if you choose someone else,” Daron added.
As soon as Daron finished talking, Martin and Matthew’s faces froze, looking totally stiff and awkward.
Everything they’d been scrambling for, Daron just brushed off like it was nothing.
Matthew was already pissed, planning to roast Harris for always handing the best stuff to his precious grandson once Daron ook :he top spot.
But Daron shot him down before he could even open his mouth. The guy didn’t even give him a chance to be snarky.
After Daron turned them down, nobody could come up with a good candidate right away.
n the end, Daron suggested Edmund’s youngest daughter, Fiona, for the job. After giving it some serious thought, everyone inally agreed to let Fiona step in as acting CEO of Zamora Group.
After the meeting wrapped up, Daron left Zamora Group with Marina.
Marina leaned in close to Daron and asked quietly, “Why did you refuse to go back to Zamora Group?
You were doing so well running Zamora Group before.”
Daron pulled Marina close and said softly, “Our side of the family controls more than half the shares in Zamora Group. No natter who sits in that chair, they’re basically working for us. And if I take the job, whatever I achieve, I’ll have to split the redit and rewards with everyone else.
Stepping back gives me more freedom to focus on other things. I’m not really hungry for the power that comes with that itle.
Fiona’s got what it takes. I trust her with the job,” Daron added.
Marina arched her brow and shot Daron a curious look. “So why did you let Martin end up in charge before?”
Daron could’ve taken Martin down any time he wanted, but he never did.
Daron just smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes, and said, “I just wanted Matthew to finally let it go.”
“I just wanted him to give up for good,” Daron said.
Matthew had always craved the top spot at Zamora Group his whole life.
These past few months, he finally got to enjoy being in charge, and every time Martin dropped the ball, Matthew was the one picking up the slack.

Chapter 518
Truth was, nobody in his branch was really cut out for the top job.
If he hadn’t gone through all this, Matthew never would’ve given up chasing that dream.

Now that he lost a chunk of his shares over this fiasco, he’d definitely keep his head down from now on.
On their way out of Zamora Group, Martin and Matthew were stopped when someone blocked Martin’s car in the parking
garage.
“Mr. Zamora, I did everything you asked with the data. Now Zamora Group is pinning all the blame on me. You can’t just stand there and let me be the one who gets thrown under the bus for this. Are you really going to let me get sent to prison. over this?” the man pleaded desperately.
“…” Martin stammered, at a loss for words.
Matthew’s face darkened instantly as he listened to the man’s words. He snapped at the security guards, “What are you standing around for? Get him out of here, now!”
With that, Matthew got into the car and slammed the door shut.
Martin sat in the back seat, head hanging low. Matthew’s face darkened, and he gave Martin a look that screamed, ‘I can’t believe you messed this up.'”
‘Didn’t you say none of the blame would ever stick to you?” Matthew snapped.
‘How did it get this bad?”
Martin took a deep breath and blurted out, “Grandpa, I was just following your lead! I did exactly what you told me to do.”
Who could’ve guessed Daron would keep his cool through all this? And Garret didn’t let a single thing slip the whole time,” Martin said, his frustration showing.
Matthew rubbed his temples, his voice low and heavy. “They had us pegged from the very beginning.”
Thinking back to all those calls from Seliv asking about the progress, it hit him. She’d just been stringing him along, making sure he stayed in the dark.
Matthew’s expression turned icy as he glared at Martin.
I’m arranging for you to leave the country tonight,” he said, his tone cold and final.
Stay out of everything going on here. Don’t come back for the next few years. Once everyone’s forgotten about this mess, then you can return,” Matthew ordered.
Martin sat there with his head down, looking like a beaten dog with nowhere to go.
Leo had been fighting Daron for years, but he never managed to win, not even once.
Martin didn’t stand a chance against Daron.
Matthew suddenly felt a wave of regret. If Martin hadn’t tried to go up against Daron after landing the CEO job, we never would’ve gotten caught up in this mess.
Our branch’s hold on Zamora Group wouldn’t have taken such a hit.
