Chapter 528

Chapter 528

Marina had been feeling strangely tired these days. She kept yawning at the office.

Ever since Hayley revealed her relationship with Daron, clients who had been on the fence about working with the Finley Group suddenly became much more decisive.

Marina found herself getting busier and busier.

Maybe it was because she hadn’t worked under such intense pressure for so long, so now her body was starting to protest.

That morning, Marina woke up and glanced at the clock. She was surprised to see it was already past nine.

She was stunned for a second, then immediately grabbed her phone from the nightstand to check.

Apparently, her alarm had gone off, but she hadn’t heard a thing.

Marina threw off the covers, got up, and rushed to the bathroom to wash up.

While she was washing up, Marina checked her alarm and realized someone had switched it off. It wasn’t that she slept through it, but that it never rang at all.

She immediately called Daron.

Daron was the only one at home who would mess with her alarm.

As soon as she dialed, Daron picked up right away.

“You’re awake?” Daron said.

“Yeah,” Marina replied, then asked, “Did you turn off my alarm?”

Daron answered, “Yeah. I’ve noticed you’ve been exhausted lately, so I asked Emeric if there was anything important going on at the Finley Group today.

“He said there wasn’t, so I thought I’d let you sleep in a bit longer.”

Marina pressed her lips together, her eyes softening with emotion. She’d been doing her best to keep up appearances and not let Daron see how tired she was, but he still saw right through her.

“I’m fine,” she said. “I’ve already gotten through the busy days.”

Daron’s voice was gentle. “But seeing the dark circles under your eyes really hurts me.”

Hearing that, Marina leaned closer to the mirror and checked her face. Seeing no dark circles, she retorted playfully, “There are no dark circles. You’re just trying to scare me.”

Daron let out a low chuckle.

“They aren’t serious yet, so you haven’t noticed. I’m just helping you prevent them from getting worse. If they really show up, I bet you’ll be complaining to me about it.”

Marina pressed her lips together. “As if I would.”

Daron chuckled. “Yeah, yeah, you wouldn’t. You’re always the good one, aren’t you?”

Marina gave a little huff, but she couldn’t help feeling a sweet flutter in her heart.

Her phone buzzed a few times. Marina glanced at the screen. It was Elnora calling.

She quickly said to Daron, “Elnora’s calling. I have to hang up.”

Without waiting for Daron to respond, Marina hung up and answered Elnora’s call.

“Elnora,” Marina greeted.

Elnora said, “Yeah, I just got back to Vrufield and saw you weren’t at the office. Are you feeling under the weather? Emeric told me you’ve been working really hard lately. Thanks for all your hard work.”

Marina’s eyes sparkled with surprise, and she quickly replied, “You’re back in Vrufield? Are you planning to settle down here for good?”

Elnora was silent for a few seconds before replying softly, “I’ll be staying in Vrufield for now.

“The Campbell family wants to throw the wedding, and Reese is taking care of all the arrangements for me. She specifically asked me to come back to Vrufield to handle a few things and send out the invitations.”

Marina was stunned for a moment.

“Oh, so after the wedding, are you going to be living in Port City?” Marina asked.

Elnora answered calmly, her voice neutral, “Yeah, for the next three years or so, I’ll be staying in Port City. But I can come back whenever I want.”

“Alright,” Marina said.

Elnora picked up on Marina’s disappointment and said softly, “Marina, with how easy it is to travel these days, just because I’m settling down in Port City doesn’t mean we can’t see each other. It’s almost the same as before.”

Marina replied, “Yeah, I know.”

She couldn’t help but worry a little.

After all, Elnora would be in Port City, a city where she barely knew anyone.

The thought of Elnora settling down in Port City still left Marina feeling a bit blue.

After all, Cole had always planned for Elnora’s husband to join the Finley family and move into the Finley household.

But now, Elnora was moving far away for marriage, And the only reason she was going so far was because of the Finley Group’s debts.

‘Let’s have dinner together tonight. Bring Daron home with you,” Elnora said.

Marina replied, “Okay”

After hanging up, Marina took a deep breath, trying to steady herself and shake off the lingering sadness.

She headed downstairs.

Belinda had already prepared breakfast. When she saw Marina coming down, she hurried to serve it.

Marina sat down at the table and picked up her spoon.

The moment she scooped up the oatmeal, the smell made her gag.

Belinda quickly moved the oatmeal away and hurried over to Marina, gently rubbing her back.

“What’s wrong. Mrs. Zamora? Is your stomach upset?” Belinda asked.

Marina nodded.

“I think so,” Marina replied. “I’ve just been feeling kind of heavy lately, probably from being so busy and tired. It’s nothing

serious.”

Marina managed a smile for Belinda, signaling that she was alright now.

Belinda said, “You’ve been so busy lately, and so has Mr. Zamora. Neither of you has been home for meals.

I can’t tell if the food outside doesn’t sit well with you, or if you’re both just too swamped to eat. If you keep going like this, it’s bad for your stomach.”

Once Marina seemed better, Belinda set the oatmeal in front of her again.

But as soon as Marina caught the scent, her stomach turned all over again. She quickly got up and moved away from the >atmeal.

Belinda, I’m not eating,” Marina said. “Just some milk is fine.”

With that, Marina grabbed the glass of milk from the table, downed it in one go, and left.

Belinda watched Marina leave, her mind turning over something.

After a moment, realization dawned. She rushed after Marina, blurting out, “Mrs. Zamora, did your period come this

nonth?”

Marina blinked in confusion. “Huh?”

Belinda asked, “Your period?”

Marina paused, then suddenly realized what Belinda meant.

She’d been so busy lately that she’d completely forgotten her period was already late for a long time now.

She stood there, holding her briefcase, looking dazedly at Belinda.

Are you saying I might be pregnant?” Marina asked softly.

Belinda nodded. “Yes, Mrs. Zamora. Your reaction just now is exactly what happens in early pregnancy.”

Belinda quickly walked over, gently took the briefcase from Marina’s hands, and said, “Mrs. Zamora, we should let Mr. Zamora know. He’ll be over the moon.”

Marina bit her lip slightly and said, “I think I should go to the hospital and get checked, just to be sure.”

If it’s just my stomach acting up and I’m not actually pregnant, that’d be really awkward, Marina thought to herself.
