Chapter 639 A Bit Stinky

Chapter 639 A Bit Stinky

Albert picked up the call from the driver right away.

“What is it?” Albert asked.

The driver replied quickly, “Mr. Campbell, you told me to call you if anything seemed off with Ms. Finley. Today, she seemed a bit out of sorts. Maybe she’s not feeling well or something, so I thought I’d let you know.”

After he finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end.

“Mr. Campbell?” the driver said.

Albert’s voice was icy as he replied, “Alright.”

With that, Albert hung up.

The driver stared at his phone, his face full of confusion.

‘What does that even mean?’ the driver wondered. ‘So… what happens now?’

Meanwhile, after hanging up, Albert set down his cards, grabbed his coat, and stood up from his seat.

“I’m heading back,” he said.

Kaelin and Benedict stared at him, totally stunned.

“You’re leaving already?” Kaelin blurted out.

Albert was the one who organized tonight’s game.

They’d barely even sat down, hadn’t played a single hand, and Albert was already out the door.

Albert nodded, his voice calm. “Ms. Finley’s not feeling well. I’d better go check on her. Otherwise, my mom will give me hell.”

Kaelin snorted. “You’re worried, just admit it. No need to use your mom as an excuse.

“Your mom hasn’t even been calling you lately, but you still rush home like clockwork. You’re so well-behaved, it’s like you’re still in grade school.

“You’re so well-behaved, it’s like you’re still in grade school.”

Albert rolled his eyes at Kaelin and gave his stool a kick. “Get lost.”

Kaelin just grinned, still smiling as he teased, “Whatever’s going on between you and Ms. Finley, you’ve been acting up for a week now. Give it a rest, man.”

Albert asked, “Am I really that obvious?”

He had been playing it cool.

Benedict nodded. “Yeah, you are.”

Every time Albert hung out with them lately, he was glued to his phone, checking it nonstop.

It was obvious who he was waiting for.

But all this time, Elnora hadn’t called him at all.

“Elnora’s really not like other women,” Eamon pointed out. “Albert, if you want to be with her, you’ll have to step up and be a lot more proactive.”

Eamon could see right through Albert.

Back when Zack was pursuing Elnora, it took him a long time just to get her attention.

Even though Elnora never talked about how much Mila and Zack hurt her, no woman could easily move past something like that.

She probably wouldn’t be able to accept Albert so quickly.

And besides, Albert still has an ex-girlfriend with a sad history.

Albert listened to Eamon in silence, didn’t bother to reply, and walked straight out of the card room.

Back at Southview Residence, Elnora walked in, and Belinda greeted her with a warm smile.

“Ms. Finley, you’re home early today?” Belinda asked.

Elnora nodded softly. “Yeah.”

She glanced at the men’s slippers next to her own.

Belinda smiled and said, “Should I call Mr. Campbell and see if he’s coming back for dinner tonight? You and Mr. Campbell have both been so busy lately. Feels like it’s been ages since you two sat down for a meal together.”

Elnora just nodded softly at Belinda, slipped on her slippers, and quietly headed inside.

Even though Elnora barely moved, Belinda picked up on her mood right away.

Once Elnora was inside, Belinda immediately pulled out her phone and called Albert.

Albert had just gotten a call from the driver, and now Belinda was calling him too. His mind was a mess-

panic rising as he feared something urgent had happened to Elnora.

Without a second thought, he pressed down on the accelerator and answered Belinda’s call.

“Speak,” he snapped.

His voice was cold and edged with anger.

Belinda hesitated for a moment and then glanced at Elnora, checking her reaction.

Elnora met her gaze, a questioning look in her eyes.

Belinda lowered her voice, trying to act normal.

She said, “Mr. Campbell, Ms. Finley’s home early today and will be having dinner at home. Are you coming back for dinner too? I can start preparing everything.”

Albert’s grip on his phone relaxed a bit.

“Is Ms. Finley feeling unwell at all?” he asked.

Belinda shot a quick look at Elnora as she went upstairs, then answered, “She’s okay at the moment.”

Albert let out a breath, feeling a bit relieved. He gave a quick “Yeah,” then added, “I’ll be back for dinner. Fix up some of Elnora’s favorites, okay?”

Belinda beamed. “Got it.”

Albert hung up right after she replied.

After putting her phone away, Belinda called up the stairs to Elnora.

“Ms. Finley, Mr. Campbell said he’ll be home for dinner tonight.”

Elnora paused for a moment, then nodded. “Alright.”

A small smile tugged at Belinda’s lips as she headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

Elnora and Albert had been swamped lately. It had been nearly a week since they last shared a meal at home.

After Belinda got busy in the kitchen, it wasn’t long before Albert came home.

He looked around downstairs, but when he didn’t spot Elnora, he made his way upstairs.

Elnora heard Albert’s car pull into the driveway, so she opened her bedroom door and walked out to see him.

She paused at her bedroom door, suddenly realizing just how eager she was to see Albert. Her fingers unconsciously gripped the doorknob tighter, betraying her anticipation.

Elnora took a deep breath, trying to tamp down that sudden rush of urgency. She lingered at the doorway for a

few seconds, with her gaze downcast, then turned to head back inside.

Just as she was about to step back inside, Albert’s voice called out from behind her.

“What, are you hiding from me on purpose, Ms. Finley?” Albert joked.

Elnora turned and saw him at the top of the stairs, suit jacket slung over his arm. She hadn’t even noticed him

come up.

She was sure she’d only just heard his car pull in outside.

“No,” Elnora shot back, not letting Albert’s teasing get to her.

Albert grinned and walked toward her, stopping just two steps away.

“Why is it that as soon as I come upstairs, you’re heading back to your room?” he teased.

Just as Elnora looked up to answer him, she smelled smoke on Albert.

She wrinkled her nose, stepped back, and touched her finger to it, looking a bit annoyed.

“Did you just smoke?” Elnora asked.

Seeing how annoyed she looked, Albert was momentarily stunned, then quickly shook his head.

“No way,” Albert replied. “It was Kaelin and the others smoking. Guess I just picked up the smell from them.”

Elnora frowned at him, her annoyance written all over her face.

“Kind of smelly,” she said.
