Chapter 4

Chapter 4

The next day, I went to the office to pack up my things.

But when I walked into my private lounge, I found Tessa lounging there in skimpy pajamas, her feet propped up on my desk.

Her stuff was everywhere. All of my things had been thrown outside the door.

This lounge was custom-built for me by Caspian. Everyone in the company knew it was off-limits.

Tessa’s behavior was a blatant slap in the face.

But I didn’t waste time arguing. I just called the cops.

At the station, Tessa panicked. “I was just grabbing some files for Caspian. Did you really have to call the police?”

“That’s my private space. Did I give you permission to go in there?”

“Taking something without asking-that’s called stealing.”

Instead of defending herself, Tessa suddenly burst into tears. I knew something was up.

Sure enough, when I turned around, there was Caspian, his face dark with anger.

“Caspian!” Tessa threw herself into his arms.

“I was just trying to help you get those files. But Lydia hates me. She’s accusing me of stealing. You’ve given me so much-I can barely fit it all in my condo. Why would I want her cheap junk?”

That little room was Caspian’s gift to me-his “sanctuary.”

It was his way of reciprocating the cabin I’d built for him.

We’d made so many sweet memories there.

I always thought that at least that one place would stay untouched-like the last shred of dignity our relationship had

left.

But of course, Caspian had to tear even that away from me.

He comforted Tessa while explaining to the officer:

“This is all a misunderstanding. We all know each other. Sorry for wasting your time.”

Then he turned to me with disgust in his voice.

“Lydia, what happened to you? You’ve turned into this jealous, vindictive person. Does it make you feel powerful to use your authority to hurt innocent people like Tessa? You’ve really disappointed me.”

Before I could respond, Tessa started her performance again.

“Caspian, don’t blame Lydia. It’s my fault for being careless.”

“If I have to spend a few days in jail and get laughed at, that’s fine. Just don’t let this come between you two.”

Caspian held her hand, his face full of pity. “Tessa, you’re too soft. That’s why people keep walking all over you.”

“Lydia,” he turned to me “this isn’t over. Apologize to Tessa. Now!”

“Caspian, she entered my private space without permission. You want me to apologize? You think she’s the victim

here?”

My words made Tessa start sobbing again.

Caspian immediately patted her back sympathetically.

“Your private space? That lounge belongs to Lancaster Corp! Don’t forget-the entire company is under my name. You

only have temporary access. If you keep this attitude up, I don’t mind pressing charges against you for false

accusations!”

With that, he pulled Tessa away to wrap things up.

His words stabbed into my heart like a blade.

I thought my heart was already dead, but somehow it still found a way to hurt.

All these years, I’d poured everything into building up Lancaster Corp. I thought I was working toward our future.

Turns out, all I got was: “You only have temporary access.”

Before leaving, Caspian gave me one last warning.

“Just so you know, we’re at 990 likes. If you keep this up, I really am gonna marry Tessa.”

I looked at Tessa standing behind him, her eyes full of contempt, and suddenly realized just how pathetic I’d been.

Tessa’s tricks were always so obvious. Caspian was smart enough to see through them.

He just chose to ignore it. His heart had already shifted toward her.

This whole thing was just his way of shaking me off.

And I’d been the idiot begging him to come back every single time.

Once I understood that, the last bit of love I had for Caspian finally died.

In the days leading up to my move to Miami, a bunch of smug coworkers kept messaging me with updates:

“994 likes now. Better grovel before someone steals your man.”

“Tsk tsk, 997 now. Looks like you’re gonna die alone.”

“Wow, you’re really holding out this time. Did you finally realize you can’t compete with Tessa and piss yourself running away? LMAO.”

I blocked and deleted every single one of them.

When the count hit 999, and I still hadn’t caved, Caspian’s mood turned ice-cold.

No one in the company dared to be the one to hit that final like.

ust as Caspian was figuring out how to issue me another warning, someone burst into his office shouting:

Mr. Lancaster! We hit 1,000 likes!”
