Chapter 6
The call connected. Mr. Hayes’ voice sounded tired.
“Caspian, what’s up?”
“Uncle Hayes, is Lydia… has Lydia gone out?”
“She hasn’t been to the office in days. Is something holding her up?”
Caspian asked urgently, clinging to a shred of hope.
There was a pause on the other end.
“Caspian, didn’t Lydia tell you?”
“She went to Miami for a new arrangement.”
“She took a flight this morning. She should’ve landed by
His voice trembled. “What? A new arrangement?”
Caspian felt like he’d been struck

nearly slipped from his hand.
“How could she go off and marry someone else without telling me?”
Mr. Hayes’ voice was calm and distant. “Caspian, we elders try not to meddle in you young people’s affairs.”
“But Lydia’s serious this time. I hope you’ll respect her decision.”
After hanging up, Caspian stood frozen, the world spinning around him.
His ears were ringing. His mind flooded with memories of Lydia.
Her gentle smile. All the little things she’d quietly done for him. And that last look she gave him-full of disappointment,
“Caspian, are you okay?”
Tessa reached out to steady him, but he violently shoved her away.
“Get away from me!” Caspian shouted, his eyes red. “This is all your fault! If it weren’t for you, Lydia never would’ve

left!”
Tessa’s face changed. Then she put on a wounded expression.
“Caspian, how can you say that?”
“Lydia’s the one who’s insecure. She couldn’t even handle you having normal friendships.”
“She didn’t trust you. What’s the point of a relationship like that?”
Caspian froze.
All he could see in his mind was Lydia’s face.
He remembered the dinner-how he’d eaten the chicken Tessa gave him without a second thought, and the sadness in Lydia’s eyes.
He remembered how after every fight, Lydia was always the first to apologize, and how he’d never once appreciated it.
He even remembered when Lydia had carefully asked him, “Caspian, can you please keep your distance from Tessa?”
And his response had been so dismissive.
“Lydia, you’re so annoying.”
Regret crashed over him like a tidal wave.
He crouched on the side of the road, hugging his knees, and finally broke down crying.
But this time, there was no one left to gently pat his head and say:
“Don’t cry. I’m here.”
After arriving in Miami, I threw myself into my career before anything else.
I rebuilt my team, set new strategic goals for my company.
Every day was fulfilling.
My new arranged partner was Grayson Ashford. His family’s influence far surpassed Caspian’s.
The Ashfords had approached my parents multiple times before, proposing an alliance.
Back then, I was completely fixated on Caspian. I couldn’t see anyone else.

But my first meeting with Grayson left a great impression.
He wasn’t arrogant like some spoiled rich kid, nor was he insecure or petty.
He was easygoing and easy to talk to. Conversations with him felt relaxed.
After spending so long walking on eggshells around Caspian, being able to have a calm conversation felt incredibly
satisfying.
I was upfront with him-I’d just gotten out of a failed relationship.
I needed time to adjust.
Grayson was more understanding than I’d expected.
He said he completely understood and was willing to wait until I was ready to open up.
Occasionally, old coworkers would call to update me on Caspian.
Apparently, he and Tessa were together now, but things weren’t going well.
