Chapter 206

Ellie’s POV

+30 Bonus

The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. But it didn’t last long before I continued cutting my meat, smiling at Dominic’s parents like I hadn’t just admitted our marriage wasn’t consummated yet.

His father turned to him. “Dominic,” he said, voice low, “is this true? You don’t even share a bedroom?”

Dominic didn’t answer, which was all the answer his parents needed.

His mother made a little sound of distress. “But I thought…” She looked at me. “You two are married now. Pups should be on the way soon. All of your behavior recently… That’s not related?”

“What behavior?” I asked, taking a bite of my food. “You mean the part where I stabbed your son at our wedding, or the prawns?”

Dominic’s mother blanched and looked at her son, for, for his part, looked utterly furious. His hands were gripping the edge of the table and he looked like he was trying to quell his anger, but failing miserably.

Good.

I watched his face with satisfaction. All this time, I had been doing my absolute best to be awful so he would divorce me, publicly causing mayhem and refusing to do my duties, but as it turned out, all I needed to do was admit to his parents that we hadn’t had sex yet.

That would be his tipping point. It had to be. Dominic, for all of his patience, couldn’t stay with me after this. He was still a prideful and arrogant person, despite everything. This humiliation would eat away at him. His parents were already furious and confused, clearly having expected to have grandchildren soon.

More importantly, if news of this spread, then it could ruin him. He’d forever be known as the Alpha who couldn’t convince his own wife to have sex with him after their wedding. He would never live it down.

Or so I thought.

But Dominic, as it turned out, was just as good at playing this game as I was. He took a breath, composing himself, then smiled pleasantly.

“We’re working on it,” he said with the utmost calm, as if he were utterly unbothered all of a sudden. “It’s just that… Well, I shouldn’t be telling you this, but…” He glanced at me, and I saw a mischievous little sparkle in his eyes, and then he turned to his parents and lowered his voice.

“Ellie has a fear of intimacy,” he whispered.

His mother inhaled sharply, pressing her fingers to her mouth, and shot me a look.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

I opened my mouth, but Dominic quickly cut in, “She’s afraid of the pain.”

“The pain?” His father laughed, eliciting a well-deserved smack from his wife. “Ellie, it’s not that bad.”

“Oh, hush!” Dominic’s mother scolded. She turned to face me and took both of my hands in hers, making me drop my fork on my plate. “Ellie, I won’t lie; it does hurt the first time, and if Dominic is anything like

his father in the…” She cleared her throat and mouthed: “Size department…”

Dominic buried his face is his hands. Even I flushed red.

“But the second time, and every time after that, will be pleasurable for you,” she went on. “I can give you some tips, if you’d like. Lubrication is important, and there are special toys made for women. We’re different than men, you know-”

“I think that’s enough, Mother,” Dominic coughed.

I smiled. “No, that’s okay. Go on.”

His mother, grinning, launched into a rather elaborate explanation of women’s anatomy and how to seek pleasure. I had to admit-it was probably the first time ever that I found myself truly liking the woman.

And the look on Dominic’s face made it all worth it, even if the whole thing about my fear of pain was completely untrue.

“Well,” his mother finally said, leaning back in her chair, a little breathless from her long-winded lecture, I do hope you’ll consider it now.”

I reached for my wine and raised the glass in Dominic’s direction. “Perhaps,” I said, although we both knew

I had no intention of that.

Dominic’s father looked ill. He pushed his chair back. “Ahem, perhaps a little nightcap is in order before we

leave…”

“Yes.” Dominic quickly pushed his own chair back and stood. I stood, too, but slipped away while they were

all distracted.

It wasn’t until I was in my room, facing the mirror, that I realized how red I had gone.

The truth was, talking about sex with Dominic had awoken something in me that I’d been shoving down for a long time. Because, deep down, beneath all of the hurt and betrayal, I still wanted him. And I didn’t want to admit it. Not to myself, not to his parents, and definitely not to him.

I had never been intimate with a man in that way. Not with him, not with anyone, not in either life. In our past life, our marriage had been perfunctory at best. I had no clue what it would feel like to have sex, although it wasn’t the physical pain that frightened me.

It was the emotional pain.

Because I knew that if we somehow became entangled in that way, on a physical level, the inevitable separation ahead of us would only hurt that much more.

Besides, I also knew that Dominic didn’t want me that way. He’d made it abundantly clear in our past life that he was borderline repulsed by me. And in this life, he’d never really shown much of an interest, either. He flirted and touched me, but what did it really mean?

Nothing, probably, other than a method to make me feel comfortable and wanted so he could ensnare me, just as he had with the contract and his vows.

Just then, the door budged against my back, making me stumble forward with a gasp. It opened, revealing Dominic standing there. The tips of his ears flushed ever so slightly when he looked at me, as if he, too, had

felt the familiar sting of unwanted attraction tonight.

“You disappeared,” he said, stepping into the room and shutting the door behind him.

“I’m tired.”

“Tired, or running away?” Dominic asked

I didn’t know what to say to that. Both, I supposed. But I wouldn’t admit the latter, not even with a gun to my head.

“Ellie, listen.” He took a step closer to me. “I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I want you to know-”

Before he could finish whatever it was he’d been about to say, a sudden crash reverberated through the room. Whatever it was came from the door, making it rattle in its frame. The sound of something breaking outside came quickly after, like metal clattering to the floor.

Dominic and I exchanged glances, both equally startled. “Hello?” Dominic called out, walking over to the✦ door. He tried to open it, but the handle wouldn’t budge, even when he pulled on it hard.

“Sorry!” his father’s voice came through the wood a moment later. “I tried to open the door, and the handle broke-”

“Looks like you’re going to be stuck in there until morning!” his mother said next. “This is a job for the locksmith. Sorry, dears. Truly! Goodnight!” 1

“What the-Hey! Wait!” Dominic called out, rattling the door, but it was no use. The lock had stuck firmly into the doorframe, and the door refused to open.
