Chapter 233 Years of Deceit

“Yvonne, how could you do this? You’ve made my life miserable. All these years…. what have I been doing?”

He had never imagined that the person who had risked her life to save him was Tracy, the sister he had always despised. And Yvonne was the one who had misled him. He wondered how many other things she was hiding. This woman was terrifying.

Yvonne grabbed Chase’s arm, crying as she explained, “Chase, you’ve really misunderstood! I never meant to mislead you. I was only seven years old! How could I have done something like that? You have to believe me. I never had that kind of intention. You know I would never hurt anyone. And even if I wasn’t the one who called Mom and Dad… I was the one who stayed at the hospital with Mom, taking care of you day and night while you were recovering!”

How could she possibly admit that she had intentionally misled him, driving a wedge between the siblings? They had already lost Trevor’s trust; they couldn’t afford to lose Chase and Jared, too. Otherwise, their life in the Xander family would be over.

So what if they were suspicious? She could still turn this around. As for Tracy… she had never taken that rival seriously. She would not lose to her.

Yvonne’s words struck a nerve. Chase turned back to Tracy. “Right. If you were so worried about me, why didn’t you ever come to see me? During that entire time, it was Madam Faye and Yvonne at the hospital, taking care of me day and night. But you, my ‘real’ sister, and my ‘real’ mother… you never visited. Not once. What’s the point of bringing this up now?”

He remembered it clearly. He had been lying in that hospital bed, desperate for his mother and sister to come, even for just a moment. But day after day, his hope turned to disappointment, and finally to despair. They never came. That was the real reason he had grown to resent Tracy so much.

Tracy gave a bitter laugh. “Because I was injured, too. And Mom was busy taking care of me. She did go to see you, but every time she went, you were asleep. I’m guessing Faye and Yvonne never told you that, did they? So you just hated us. You hated us for all these years. You hated us so much that when Mom died, you didn’t even come to see her one last time. Chase, you are a complete and total idiot. You’ve been played for a fool, and you’re still defending them.”

She had been injured trying to save him, but he had seen her as cold-hearted for not visiting. Because of Yvonne and Faye’s deliberate omissions and manipulations, their relationship had deteriorated to the point of pure disgust. She hadn’t understood why before. But now that she did, she was not going to let them get away with it. Even if she couldn’t destroy them outright, she could at least plant the seeds of suspicion. She was going to give them a taste of their own medicine. That mother-daughter pair was repulsive.

This time, she wouldn’t let them off so easily.

Chase looked at Faye, his expression strange. “Did my mother really come to the hospital to see me? Why did you lie to me?”

Before Faye could speak, Tracy cut in again. “Why else? To drive us apart. Isn’t that what they’ve been doing all these years? Haven’t they just used that pitiful, innocent act to fool all of you? Do you really think they’re good people? You, of all people, should know how they got their hands on their shares in the company!”

Chapter 33 Years of Decent

Even though she rarely came home after her parents divorced, she wasn’t completely in the dark. Yvonne and her mother had always targeted her while putting on a perfect act for Trevor and her brothers, making it impossible to pin anything on them. It was because of this that she had suffered in silence time and time again.

But now, she was done being silent. Yvonne wasn’t even a Xander. Trevor had been a fool for twenty years. Yvonne had stolen the life that should have been hers, and it was all a lie. And here she was, the real daughter, who had suffered endlessly. Why should they still be allowed to act so high and mighty?

She refused to believe they hadn’t guessed she was the one who sent that DNA test.

Yvonne’s crying intensified. “How can you say that about me and my mom? I know you don’t like us, but you can’t just accuse us like this! Even if Mom forgot to tell Chase something, it was an accident. She didn’t do it on purpose!”

If Tracy thinks she can use this to destroy us, she’s wrong. I won’t give her the chance.

Faye also pinched her own thigh, forcing tears. “That’s right, Chase! You know how I’ve treated you all these years. My feelings for you are genuine!”
