Chapter 234 A Desperate Pivot

“When your mother came to see you, you never asked me about it. I just assumed you knew, so I never mentioned it. You can’t blame me entirely for that! Besides that one thing, I’ve always treated you and your brother like my own sons.”
So what if it was deliberate? she thought. Haven’t my years of groveling and subservience been enough to cover that one small mistake?
She refused to believe that the boys she had practically raised would turn on her for something so minor.
Just as she’d expected, Chase’s dark expression softened considerably at her words.
At that moment, Jared walked over, his face grim. “Dad, I checked. The finance department never sent any money to Mom.”
His words hit the room, and suddenly, the way everyone looked at Faye and Yvonne changed.
Jared continued, “But the finance department did transfer ten thousand a month to an account under the name ‘Ginger.’ It’s not hard to guess whose that is, is it? Why were you sending him so much money every month? That money was supposed to go to my mother and sister. Why did you tell finance to transfer it to him?”
How many more secrets are this mother and daughter hiding? It was like opening one bad mystery box after another. It was sickening.
This was his real mother and sister. They had withheld their living expenses and given the money away to someone else. How dare they?
No wonder Tracy hated the Xander family. It was true. She had never received a single benefit from them. And yet, they had all stood on their moral high ground, criticizing her, when they had never once cared enough to find out the truth.
Jared’s heart felt like it was being crushed. Tracy was right to hate them. What had they been doing all these years?
Trevor was so enraged he slapped Faye across the face. “Faye!” he roared, his eyes red, “I trusted you! What have you been doing behind my back? I wondered why Tracy was so bitter toward us. It was you, sowing discord all this time! How could you? That money was for my ex-wife and daughter! How dare you give it to your good-for-nothing brother-in-law? You know his family is a bottomless pit! How dare you?”
He grew angrier as he spoke, and he slapped her again. The thought of Tracy and her mother suffering, starving, because they had no money, made his chest tighten. He had never once questioned where the money was going, and Faye had taken advantage of his negligence.
Faye clutched her swelling face. Before she could even think, she grabbed Trevor’s arm, crying pitifully. “I don’t know how that happened! I didn’t mean to, Trevor! You have to believe me! I’ve been in this family for twenty years. You know what kind of person I am! I truly didn’t know that money was for Tracy and her mother! If I had known, I never would have done it! I just… I just thought the Ginger family was in such a difficult situation, and I wanted to help them!”
The Ginger family had been blackmailing them for years over what they did to Riley. But ever since she

started giving them that money, they had been quiet. She never thought it would come up now. This was all Tracy’s fault. Despicable!
Yvonne stepped forward, crying as she defended her mother. “Dad, Mom really didn’t know that money was for Aunt Fang! My uncle’s family was struggling, so she just wanted to help them. She just made an honest mistake. It’s not that much money, anyway. Can’t we just let it go? It’s been so long. We can’t keep dwelling on the past. The most important thing right now is solving the company’s crisis!”
She hadn’t expected Trevor and Jared to react so strongly. She’d almost been too stunned to think of an excuse. No matter what, Tracy was still beneath her. She would not lose.
At the mention of the company, Trevor stopped fixating on the past. He turned to Tracy. “Tracy, your sister is right. The past is the past. Let’s not dwell on it, okay? No amount of talking will change what happened. We should focus on the problems we’re facing now, don’t you think?”
If Yvonne hadn’t reminded him, he would have forgotten the real reason they were here. He was glad she had. His recent prejudice against her dissolved. No matter what, Yvonne was their family’s little princess. He wouldn’t let anyone slander her.
Chase also stepped up. “Tracy, why are you being so dramatic? What’s the point of dredging up the past? It’s not going to change anything.”
