“Thanks for your concern, everyone. Yes, I got married right after graduation and spent seven years as a stay-at-home mom. Just last week, I started working at the N&Q Institute of Medicine, Queenie said confidently, ready to stand by her choices.
“Seriously, Queenie? You expect us to believe you’re actually working at the N&Q Institute of Medicine?” Jessica asked, her tone full of disbelief.
Even though Queenie denied being best friends with Vivian, it was clear that they knew each other well. People were left wondering who to believe, Queenie or Vivian.
“Looks like it’s busy in here,” someone said as they entered.
“Frank!” someone shouted, waving to the vice class president.
Frank Rowe was the one who usually set up these get-togethers because Queenie never stepped in as the class president.
After Frank walked in, an older man, likely in his seventies, followed.
“Mr. Grant!” everyone said, showing their admiration.
Queenie glanced at William, her heart racing with nervousness. She didn’t know how to approach her former teacher.
“Queenie!” Frank noticed her, and his face lit up with genuine happiness. “When you mentioned you might come, I barely believed it, but here you are.”
Queenie gave a small nod and then looked up at William. “Mr. Grant.”
William glanced at her and ignored her.
Queenie looked down. She knew William was still upset with her, and he probably didn’t want to see her at all.
‘Hello, Mr. Grant,” Vivian said, quickly making her way over to him.
William shot her a questioning look. “Is she from your department?”
Frank looked puzzled, too.
‘Mr. Grant, this is my friend Vivian. She’s a well-known actress. You’ve probably seen her in a lot of TV shows,” Jessica chimed in to introduce Vivian.
Vivian quickly handed over a gift. “Mr. Grant, this is just a little something from me.”
‘Jessica, what’s this about? You know I don’t take gifts,” William said sharply.
Jessica quickly pulled Vivian back. “Sorry, Mr. Grant.”
Vivian was totally embarrassed. She’d heard William was batty, but she never thought he’d shut her down like that in front of everyone.
William ignored her and looked back at Queenie. “So what are you up to these days?”
Queenie answered respectfully, “I just started working at the N&Q Institute of Medicine.”
‘Good,” William said with a nod, looking a little less tense.
