Vivian noticed Queenie but didn’t acknowledge her. “Hey, everyone! I brought some gifts for you all. Hope you like them.” She started handing them out one by one.
At first, some people were a bit annoyed about having an outsider at their meetup, but they quickly forgot their irritation when they saw the nice gifts.
When it was Queenie’s turn, there was no gift for her. “I’m sorry, Queenie. I didn’t know you were coming, and Jessica didn’t tell me, so I didn’t prepare anything for you,” Vivian said.
Before Queenie could respond, Jessica jumped in. “Queenie, it’s been so long! I heard you got married right after graduation.”
Her comment sparked a wave of gasps and whispers in the room.
“Seriously, with all your talent, marrying right after graduation seems like such a waste. You were always the smartest one, and now you’re going to be a housewife?” Jessica said.
Queenie caught the sarcasm, and everyone else did, too.
Grace could no longer stay silent and stepped in front of Queenie. “Come on, Jessica. Whether Queenie wants to build her career or settle down after marriage is her choice.”
Some people nodded in agreement, while others felt it was a pity.
“Don’t take it to heart, Queenie. Jessica didn’t mean any harm. She’s just feeling sorry for you,” Vivian added, trying to smooth things over.
Queenie gently pulled Grace back and stepped forward with a calm smile. “Thanks for your concern, Jessica.” Her steady demeanor made Jessica feel like she’d hit a pillow, completely futile and frustrating.
But Jessica wasn’t going to let it go. “Never mind. It’s Saturday, right? Shouldn’t you be home taking care of your kid? Or are you sneaking out a bit before heading back?”
Vivian quickly chimed in, “Jessica, you might not know, but Queenie has a job now.”
“A job? Queenie, where are you working these days?” Jessica asked, clearly intrigued.
Everyone else leaned in curiously, wanting to hear more.
Jessica let out a sarcastic laugh. “Queenie, you can’t even say it out loud? After spending seven years at home, finding a job must be tough, right?”
“N&Q Institute of Medicine,” Queenie responded calmly.
Immediately, the room erupted with excitement.
“Wow, N&Q Institute of Medicine? That’s the top research institute in the country. Queenie, you never cease to amaze me,” Grace exclaimed, full of admiration.
The others looked at Queenie with evident envy.
Jessica’s smile faded, and her expression turned sour.
Vivian looked Queenie up and down, and just as everyone was praising her, she spoke up slowly. “Queenie, we’re supposed

to be best friends, but don’t mislead your classmates for the sake of appearances,
Wait, Vivian, the celebrity, is Queenie’s best friend?” someone said in surprise.
“What’s going on?” another person asked.

Before anyone could react, Vivian continued, “You’ve been home taking care of your kid, and now you’re starting as a waitress. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
A waitress? Queenie’s actually a waitress now?” someone exclaimed, sounding shocked.
Queenie remained calm. Once the room quieted down, she spoke slowly. “Vivian, you’ve got to be joking, Jessica and I never got along. Everyone in our department knows that. You’re supposed to be my best friend, so how could you not know?
“If you did know, then I have to ask you this. How did my best friend end up hanging out with my enemy? Now, at a class reunion, you two team up to bring me down? Honestly, I don’t need a friend like that.”
Vivian’s face instantly darkened. When did Queenie get so sharp-tongued again, just like in school? Ever since she married Vincent, she’s been so docile. But now, she’s throwing shade left and right. It’s obvious to everyone,’ she thought.
