Chapter 630 Thunderous Heartbeat

Chapter 630 Thunderous Heartbeat

Albert nodded. “I’ll handle it.”

Elnora just gave a quiet “mm” and didn’t press him on how he planned to deal with it.

The air between them grew quiet again.

Just then, someone approached the door to Elnora’s hospital room and called out to Albert. “Albert…”

Elnora looked up and saw one of Albert’s classmates standing at the doorway, with something on his mind but hesitating to speak.

Albert frowned and said quietly to Elnora, “I’ll step out for a bit. Be right back.”

Elnora nodded and replied, “Okay.”

Albert turned and left her room, gently closing the door behind him.

The voices outside were muffled, unable to reach her through the closed door.

Elnora just leaned quietly against the hospital bed.

She had no idea how much time had passed.

Then, her hospital room door was pushed open again.

Marina and Daron walked in together.

It had been a while since Elnora last saw Marina, and now her pregnancy was starting to show.

Marina was walking in a hurry, and Daron kept a worried eye on her, reaching out every now and then to steady her, afraid she might trip.

“Elnora,” Marina called softly. “How are you? Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Is anything hurting?”

As soon as Marina reached Elnora’s side, her eyes grew teary. She couldn’t hide the worry and concern in her

gaze.

Elnora smiled at her and shook her head. “Nothing serious, just some bruises. I’ll recover soon with a bit of

rest.”

Marina’s eyes were red and misty with unshed tears.

She held Elnora’s hand for quite a while, saying nothing.

Elnora gently patted her hand, soothing her.

She said, “You’re about to be a mom, so don’t go crying at the drop of a hat. You’re carrying a baby now. If your moods rub off on them, they might be a handful once they’re born.”

Marina sniffled. “Come on, this really isn’t the time to worry about whether my baby will be a handful. You should really be taking care of yourself instead.

“You’ve only been married for such a short time, and you’ve already been through so much. Let’s go back to Vrufield together.”

Marina’s eyes brimmed with tears, and finally, they spilled down her cheeks.

Elnora gave her a gentle smile and said, “It’s not time for me to go back yet.”

‘Once I clear my debts, I can finally go home, Elnora thought to herself.

Marina bit her lip hard. She knew exactly what Elnora was getting at. “I’ll just…”

Elnora cut her off, her voice soft but steady. “Alright, you’re going to be a mom soon. Don’t let yourself get caught up in petty words like that.”

The Finley Group had just gotten through a rough patch.

If they tried to pay back the Campbell family at such a crucial time, the Finley Group would be thrown right back into another mess.

And if things fell apart with the Campbell family, the Finley Group would end up with a reputation for being ungrateful, like biting the hand that feeds them.

If the Finley Group ever ran into trouble again, who’d ever stick their neck out for them?

Marina understood all of this, but seeing Elnora suffering here really tore her up inside.

Elnora looked at Marina, her baby bump showing and her eyes red with tears, and immediately reached out to gently wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes.

“Hey, don’t cry,” Elnora said softly. “I’m really okay. Seeing you cry like this just makes me feel worse.”

Marina quickly turned away and brushed the tears from her eyes.

Elnora didn’t like hearing those words, so Marina simply stayed silent.

Seeing Marina’s stubborn expression, Elnora couldn’t help but smile and decided to steer the conversation elsewhere. “Last time you came by, I was so busy that I forgot to ask. When’s your due date again?”

Marina’s voice was low and subdued. “Just four months to go. The baby’s due right around July.”

Elnora nodded with a smile. “Time really flies. That little girl who used to tag along behind me is actually going to be a mom soon.”

There was a touch of nostalgia in Elnora’s voice, and then she suddenly remembered Kara.

“Is Kara due soon?” Elnora asked.

Marina nodded.

“Mm-hmm,” she replied. “She’s due any day now.”

“Kara’s helped me out a lot over the years. Make sure to be there for her these days, and say hi to her for me,”

Elnora said.

Kara had always acted fearless, but deep down, she was still a spoiled heiress from the Gross family.

Having a baby was scary. If she didn’t have someone she trusted around, she was bound to feel pretty anxious.

When Albert walked in, Elnora was joking around with Marina, sharing a light moment.

Elnora only ever showed that soft, tender smile when she was with her family.

Albert found himself watching her a bit longer than usual.

But as soon as he stepped inside, the laughter and conversation stopped instantly.

Albert felt a pang in his chest, a strange uneasiness he couldn’t shake.

Marina glanced at him, her expression less than warm, but considering Elnora’s situation, she still called out quietly, “Albert.”

Albert nodded and walked over to Elnora’s bedside.

“Are you hungry? I’ve already asked the family to send over some food for you,” he said.

Elnora shook her head. “Not yet.”

“Just eat later,” Albert said.

Elnora gave a soft “mm” and kept quiet after that.

Eventually, Daron invited Albert to take a walk with him, leaving Elnora and Marina alone together. The awkward tension in the room finally started to fade.

As soon as Albert and Daron stepped out of Elnora’s room, Stella came out of the elevator, wearing a hospital gown.

When she saw Albert, she walked straight over to him.

“Albert, I heard from our classmates that you covered my medical bills,” Stella said. “I’ll figure out a way to pay you back.”

Albert frowned, his voice cool as he replied, “If any of our classmates had come to me for help today, I would’

ve done the same. It’s not because we’re personally connected.”

Stella’s face turned pale when she heard that.

She bit her lip and said, “I know. I’ll find a way to pay you back for this.”

Albert’s voice was cold. “I’ll have my assistant send you the bank details. Coordinate with him.”

Stella fell silent.

Albert and Daron walked past her.

Daron didn’t even look at Stella. Once they stepped into the elevator, his face was clouded with thought.

Albert shot Daron a look and said, “After we broke up, there’s nothing between us anymore. All that talk out

there? Just rumors.”

After all, Daron was Elnora’s brother-in-law.

Albert thought he should explain himself.

Daron replied in a calm tone, “Then why did you pay for her medical bills, Mr. Campbell?”

Albert replied, “Out of pity. Just pity for someone I once knew.”

Daron’s deep eyes lingered on Albert for a moment, silent and intense. Then he finally spoke. “So, when the Campbell family paid off all of the Finley Group’s debts and brought in a professional team to treat Elnora, was that just out of pity too?”

Albert was momentarily at a loss for words.

But he quickly looked up at Daron and replied firmly, “That’s different.”
