Chapter 631 Couldn’t Hold Back His Smile
Daron looked away from Albert, his voice flat and emotionless.
“Yeah, it’s different,” he said. “You and Ms. Taylor go way back, but my sister-in-law had nothing to do with you back then. To outsiders, it really does look different.”
No matter how others looked at it, Stella was always Daron’s old flame.
Albert was left speechless by Daron’s words.
Strangely, he caught a glimpse of Elnora’s vibe in Daron.
Word was, Elnora and Daron had been classmates.
They’d practically grown up together.
A wave of unexplainable anxiety washed over Albert.
After a long pause, he finally muttered, “But you can’t just let someone die, right?”
Daron didn’t respond.
A flicker of discouragement flashed in Albert’s eyes.
He rubbed his brow, his eyes flashing with annoyance, but he kept up a nonchalant front in front of Daron. They just took a casual stroll downstairs and soon made their way back to Elnora’s hospital room.
As soon as Albert walked in, Reese shot him a death glare.
Her eyes were icy, basically saying, “Just wait till we get home.”
Albert just shrugged, feeling helpless. Elnora was hurt, and if Reese wanted to chew him out or even smack him, he’d just have to suck it up.
Marina and Daron only spent a day in Port City before Elnora urged them to head to Yorelia to be with Kara as she waited for her due date.
Back when the Finley family was in trouble, the Gross family had quietly lent a hand behind the scenes.
Now, Kara was all alone in Yorelia, awaiting childbirth with nobody around. She was probably pretty nervous
about it.
The day Marina left, tears were streaming down her face.
With a smile, Elnora joked that Marina had become much more sentimental ever since she got pregnant.
After Marina left, the hospital room finally quieted down.
While Elnora was in the hospital, Albert basically turned her room into his office.
He worked there every day and even crashed on the little cot next to her bed at night.
Albert, a spoiled rich kid who’d never had it rough, was really suffering now. The cot was hard and tiny, and every morning, he’d need a good stretch just to feel human again.
At first, Elnora kept urging Albert to head home.
But seeing how determined he was, she didn’t bring it up again.
By the fifth day Elnora was in the hospital, Kara finally had her baby.
Marina flooded Elnora’s phone with texts, letting her know everything went smoothly and sharing a bunch of baby pics.
Kara’s little boy was rosy and adorable, looking like the most well-behaved baby ever.
Elnora was honestly impressed by Kara’s bravery.
While she was grinning at the baby pics, someone knocked on her hospital room door.
Elnora looked up and said, “Come in.”

Kailee walked in, holding a gift.
When Elnora saw him, she pulled back the covers, about to get up.
Kailee waved his hand, motioning for her to stay lying down.
“You’re still injured, so just stay put,” she said. “I really wanted to visit you the day you got hurt, but everything was just chaos.
“Honestly, it was overwhelming. Stella was admitted to the hospital the same day as your accident, diagnosed with acute leukemia.”
As she spoke, Kailee waved her hand, her expression resigned and weary.
Elnora fell into a long silence as she listened to Kailee.
Seeing her quiet, Kailee then shifted the topic, her voice gentle. “Look at me, rambling on about all this depressing stuff. Why am I even talking about this with you?
“Are you feeling any better? The whole thing happened so suddenly-it really scared everyone. People these days are just so brazen.”
Elnora pressed her lips together and replied softly, “I’m much better now. In a few days, I’ll be discharged and can recover at home.”
Kailee nodded, let out a sigh, and said, “I really hope Stella gets better soon.
“That poor kid has had it rough ever since she was little. It’s really heartbreaking.
“Why should a kid have to pay for her parents’ mistakes? The Taylor family hasn’t even shown up to check on
her.
“If Albert hadn’t stepped in, Stella wouldn’t even have enough for her hospital bills.”
Elnora didn’t reply, just staying quiet.
Kailee chatted with her for a bit longer, and after a while, she finally got up to leave.
When Albert got back, he caught sight of Kailee coming out of Elnora’s hospital room.
Kailee saw Albert and greeted him calmly. “I was visiting Stella and heard Elnora was staying upstairs, so I figured I’d stop by and check in on her.”
Albert nodded slightly and said, “Let me see you out.”
Kailee waved her hand. “It’s okay. I’ll go down myself.”
Albert didn’t push it, just watched Kailee get into the elevator.
As soon as the elevator doors closed behind Kailee, Albert pushed open Elnora’s hospital room door and walked in.
Elnora was sitting up in bed, looking at her phone.
When Albert walked in, he saw her staring at a baby photo on her screen, her face lost in thought.
Albert breathed a sigh of relief, walked over, set down the fruit he’d just bought, and asked, “Whose baby is that? They’re adorable.”
Elnora turned off her phone screen and set it aside, replying in a calm voice, “A friend’s baby. I’m just thinking about what kind of gift to send.”
Albert glanced at Elnora and asked, “So, is it a boy or a girl?”
“A boy,” Elnora replied.
Albert settled in next to Elnora and started tossing out ideas for gifts.
Elnora just listened quietly, and eventually nodded, thinking Albert’s suggestion was a good one.
Albert smiled, grabbed an apple nearby, and started peeling it.
After he finished, he offered the apple to Elnora.

Elnora reached out to take it, her gaze lingering on Albert’s face.
Noticing Elnora had been staring at him for a while, Albert grinned and asked, “Hey, have I got something on my face?”
Elnora shook her head and replied softly, “No, nothing at all.”
She was just quietly studying Albert’s face.
Albert was undeniably handsome.
With genes like his, he wouldn’t be a bad choice as the father of her child.
After everything she’d been through in this marriage, she wasn’t planning on getting married again anyway.
She might as well have a child while she was still in this marriage.
Maybe she could follow Kara’s lead and have a child while she was still married.
Elnora had already made up her mind.

That night, Albert was sleeping on the cot next to Elnora’s bed.
Elnora turned her head, glanced at Albert, and quietly said, “Why don’t you come sleep up here with me?”
Albert couldn’t believe his ears and thought, ‘Did she really just say that?’
“What?” Albert asked, his voice trembling a bit.
Elnora repeated herself, her tone soft. “The cot’s way too hard. Come sleep up here.”
Albert stayed silent for a long time, not making a move.
Elnora glanced over at him, and when she saw he still wasn’t responding, she fell silent as well.
Just when Elnora thought Albert was going to stay put, he kicked off the cot’s blanket and slid right under her
covers.
As he climbed in, Elnora shifted to the side, making sure he had enough room.
Albert slid in beside Elnora, grinning ear to ear. He couldn’t wipe the smile off his face, no matter how hard he tried.
His heart was thundering in his chest.
