Chapter 638 Calling Albert

Chapter 638 Calling Albert

Elara noticed Elnora was lost in thought, so she waved her hand in front of her.

“Ms. Finley, what are you thinking about?” Elara asked.

Elnora snapped out of it, her voice calm and distant.

“It’s nothing. Go ahead and get back to work,” she replied.

Elara nodded and got up, leaving Elnora’s office.

Elnora sat in her office chair, rubbing her temples, a trace of distress flickering in her eyes.

She hadn’t really talked to Albert much lately.

At the moment, she wasn’t sure how to move forward with the plan she had in mind.

Elnora let out a quiet sigh, shoved her emotions aside, and forced herself to focus on work.

Later that afternoon, after the meeting, Elnora stepped out of the conference room and saw Albert coming out of Reese’s office.

Their eyes met in the hallway.

Albert gave Elnora a slight nod as a greeting, then headed toward the elevator.

Elnora’s gaze lingered on Albert for a moment before she looked away and turned back to her office.

It was the first time they’d seen each other in almost a week.

The staff who came out of the conference room with Elnora found the whole thing pretty interesting.

Elnora and Albert acted like they barely knew each other.

Honestly, no one could find another couple like them anywhere in the world.

After Elnora went back to her office, Albert cast a lingering look toward her door.

He drew in a deep breath, his eyes briefly clouded with sadness, but quickly pulled himself together and stepped into the elevator, disappearing as the doors closed.

Ever since Elnora started working at Campbell Group, she’d been staying late at the office almost every day.

Her team wouldn’t even think about leaving when the workday was over. They were too nervous to clock out before she did.

But today, Elnora left the office right at quitting time for once.

Her team was surprised to see her head out at the usual hour.

Elara was still at her desk, handling some work.

A coworker slid over and whispered, “Elara, any idea why Ms. Finley left so early today?”

Elara glanced toward the elevator and answered quietly, “I’m not really sure. Maybe she’s just feeling good today.”

As she spoke, Elara closed her laptop and smiled at the coworker. “I’ve told you all before. When it’s time to clock out, just head out quietly like usual.

“Ms. Finley doesn’t need anyone to stick around when she’s working late.”

The coworker gave an awkward smile.

Elara really had told them that before.

But with the new boss still hanging around the office, and her assistant always staying late with her, nobody wanted to be the first to leave.

If anyone clocked out right at quitting time, they’d probably end up on the boss’s bad side. So, no one dared to leave right on the dot.

With her laptop in hand, Elara walked over to Elnora.

The elevator doors opened just as she arrived.

Elnora was the first to step inside.

Elara followed right after.

Elara smiled and spoke softly to Elnora. “Ms. Finley, you’ve been so serious lately. Everyone’s scared of you. Come on, give us a smile.”

Elnora frowned a little at Elara’s words and replied quietly, “Am I really that serious?”

Elara nodded. “You always seem preoccupied, like something’s weighing on you.”

Elnora just stayed quiet, not saying a word.

Truth was, she’d been carrying a lot lately.

Especially now, she still hadn’t figured out how to deal with that mess.

If getting pregnant was something she could do solo, it wouldn’t bother her so much.

Unfortunately, pregnancy wasn’t something she could do alone. It took two.

She needed Albert to play his part.

Elnora was feeling a bit troubled.

Seeing the slight frown on Elnora’s face, Elara asked softly, “If there’s something you can’t solve, you can talk to me. Maybe I can give you some advice.”

Elnora shot Elara a sideways look.

Elara smiled, looking confident, as if she really believed she could help.

Elnora studied her face for a moment, then looked away and said in a flat tone, “You don’t even have a boyfriend. You wouldn’t have any advice for me at all.”

Elara could only stare in silence.

“Just because I don’t have a boyfriend doesn’t mean I can’t help. Sometimes, the ones not involved see things the clearest, so I might actually have some good advice for you,” she said.

Elnora replied in a flat tone, “It’s a romantic problem between a man and a woman.”

Elara replied, “Hey, just because I don’t have a boyfriend doesn’t mean I’m clueless about relationship stuff.”

Elnora glanced at her. “I’m not talking about regular relationship issues. I mean bedroom problems. Are you some kind of expert in that?”

Elara blinked, totally caught off guard. “Wait, what?”

She couldn’t keep up with Elnora’s sudden change in topic.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open.

Elnora strode out first.

Elara watched Elnora’s back. Something suddenly clicked for her, and she quickly followed.

“Wait, Ms. Finley, you mean… you and Mr. Campbell…?” Elara stammered.

Elnora caught exactly what Elara was hinting at and just nodded.

Elara bit her lip, honestly shocked that Elnora and Albert had already reached that point.

‘So what was Mr. Campbell even trying to pull, acting all aloof when he bumped into Ms. Finley outside the conference room this afternoon?’ Elara wondered. ‘Why didn’t he just come over and greet Ms. Finley properly?’ “Ms. Finley, are you feeling troubled because Mr. Campbell’s attitude changed toward you after things got intimate between you two?” Elara asked.

Elnora shook her head at Elara’s question. “No, that’s not it.”

Elara looked confused, still unable to figure out what was troubling Elnora.

Seeing Elara lost in thought, Elnora reached out and knocked lightly on her head to snap her out of it.

“Alright, that’s enough,” Elnora said. “Stop overthinking it. Tomorrow morning, I want all the details on the owner of that land outside Port City.”

Elara replied with a quick “Got it,” and let Elnora go on ahead without following.

As soon as Elnora stepped out of Campbell Group, the driver pulled the car up right away.

She bent down to get in, then took out her phone and pulled up her chat with Albert on social media.

They almost never chatted on social media.

The last time they’d exchanged messages, Albert had just sent her a location.

Elnora’s eyes lingered on the chat box. She typed out a message to Albert, but after a moment’s hesitation, she erased it.

After sitting there for a while, she gave up on reaching out to him, slipped her phone back into her bag, and slumped into the back seat, lost in her own thoughts.

She gazed out the window, lost in silence the entire way.

The driver glanced back at Elnora every so often from the rearview mirror.

Elnora was the quiet type.

Just like always, she’d get in the car and not say a single word.

But today, even though she was still quiet, something felt a little off about her.

Usually, she’d be flipping through a magazine or handling some work stuff in the car.

But today, she didn’t do any of that.

She just sat there, gazing out the window, looking troubled, like something was really weighing on her mind.

They finally pulled up at Southview Residence.

Elnora stepped out of the car, still lost in her thoughts, and quietly made her way inside.

The driver watched Elnora’s retreating figure, hesitated for a moment, then finally pulled out his phone and

called Albert.
