Chapter 637 Failed to Conceive
The elevator reached the first floor.
Reese stepped out first.
As Elnora followed, she quickly withdrew her hand, trying to shake off Albert’s grip.
But his hand stuck right back to hers, like glue.
Elnora’s brows knitted slightly as she glanced up at Albert.
Albert had no intention of letting go. With a playful smile, he leaned in, his lips almost brushing Elnora’s ear as he whispered softly, “Ms. Finley, you’re so cold.
“Last night you sweet-talked me into your bed, and now you’re acting like you don’t even know me. Was I just a fling to you?”
Elnora never expected Albert to talk about this at work, and her cheeks turned red in an instant.
She didn’t bother denying it, just lifted her gaze to meet his.
She said, “What, Mr. Campbell? Can’t handle a one-night stand?”
Albert was momentarily speechless.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Elnora slipped her hand free and gave him a frosty glance.
Albert tried to lean in again, but Elnora cut him off, her voice sharp and no-nonsense. “Mr. Campbell, we’re at work. Keep it professional.”
Albert was speechless again.
He shot a sideways glance at the receptionist, who was watching them, and his expression turned grim. Meanwhile, Elnora had already caught up with Reese and walked out of the front lobby.
Albert exhaled slowly, feeling a bit down inside.
*****
Albert was all over Elnora, serving her food and pouring her water.
Reese watched the whole thing, finding it pretty amusing.
After all these years, she’d never seen her son go to such lengths to win over a girl.
After lunch, Reese got a work call and headed back to the office first.
That left just Albert and Elnora in the private room.
As soon as Reese was gone, Albert dropped the act and leaned in close to Elnora, resting his hand on the back of her chair.
“I admit it, I’m not cut out for casual flings,” Albert said.
After last night, he just couldn’t pretend nothing happened between them anymore.
He just wanted Elnora’s eyes on him for a few more seconds, to have her attention linger.
But she was still treating him like nothing had changed, and he couldn’t stand it.
Albert felt like he was about to lose his mind.
Elnora listened to Albert, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him.
After a few seconds of silence, she replied quietly, “I understand.”
Albert blinked, a bit thrown off. “What exactly do you understand now?”
Elnora met Albert’s gaze, her face indifferent, eyes devoid of much emotion.
“Alright, Mr. Campbell. If you’re done with the games, so am I,” Elnora said coolly. Albert was speechless again.

Elnora set down her fork and stood up from her seat.
Albert suddenly grabbed her, his eyes burning with frustration.
“Ms. Finley, you know that’s not what I meant. Are you just saying this to mess with me?” he asked.
Elnora remained standing, towering over Albert as he sat, her voice cool and distant. “I don’t quite understand what you’re getting at, Mr. Campbell.”
Albert looked up, but the words he meant to say froze in his throat when he saw the cold, unreadable look in her eyes.
He suddenly realized that, in this whole thing, Elnora hadn’t gotten emotionally involved at all.
But for him, last night had left him reeling, like he’d almost lost himself.
Albert took a deep breath, staring at Elnora for a few seconds.
After a long silence, he finally asked, his voice uncertain, “Ms. Finley, was last night your way of getting back at me for that time I kissed you in the elevator without asking?”
Elnora lowered her gaze. If Albert hadn’t mentioned it, she probably would’ve forgotten all about it.
‘Well, since he brought it up, I might as well use it as my excuse, she thought.
“Yeah. We’re even now,” she added.
Albert stared at Elnora’s face, his eyes searching for any sign of emotion.
But her gaze was calm and unreadable, just a cool glance as she spoke in a low voice, “Whether you can handle it or not, Mr. Campbell, you’ll just have to deal with it.”
With that, Elnora turned and walked out of the private room.
She’d barely stepped out when the crash of a porcelain bowl breaking echoed behind her.
Elnora’s brow furrowed, and she stopped in her tracks.
She paused for a few seconds, but didn’t turn back. Instead, she headed straight for Campbell Group.
When Reese saw Elnora come back alone and Albert wasn’t with her, she didn’t say a word about it.
For a while after that, Elnora buried herself in work.
She poured all her energy into her job, barely thinking about anything else.
She was out the door early and back late, almost never crossing paths with Albert.
Every so often, she’d catch some news about Albert from Elara.
Even after Elara left Supernova Entertainment with her, she never left the company’s work group chat.
Word was, Albert had been cleaning house at Supernova Entertainment lately.
Now, anyone at Supernova Entertainment even remotely connected to the Taylor family was keeping their heads down, trying not to attract attention.
Stella’s agent, Adrianna, was so tense she barely dared to breathe.
The Taylor family’s projects had been hitting roadblocks left and right lately.
Word was, Albert was behind all the trouble the Taylor family was facing lately, making sure they kept stumbling.
Stella, desperate to beg Albert to help her family, showed up at the office in her hospital clothes, but he didn’t even look her way.
The Port City media, who used to paint Albert as a ladies’ man, suddenly started calling him heartless.
When Stella saw those reports, she actually called up the reporters herself, trying to explain that Albert wasn’t really heartless. He must have his own reasons or be under a lot of pressure.
After all these years together, she still trusted the kind of person he was.
When Elara brought it up, she was practically fuming.

“She’s practically dying, but still so dramatic,” Elara scoffed.
Stella’s ambiguous remarks were all about Elnora.
She was making it seem like Albert was only treating her that way because Elnora was putting pressure on him.
Elnora didn’t react at all. She just replied to Elara in a calm, almost uninterested tone.
“She’s just being professional. Nothing wrong with that,” Elnora replied.
Stella was an actress, though she still hadn’t landed any breakout roles.
“Ms. Finley, that was a cold joke,” Elara said, rubbing her arms with an awkward smile.
Elnora didn’t say anything else. Just then, a notification popped up on her phone.
The headline screamed: [Albert Campbell slams Port City media for twisting the facts, stirring up drama, and misleading the public just for clicks-not for the truth.]
Right after Albert’s interview dropped, news broke that the reporters from that company had been caught acting totally unprofessional.
Seeing this, the other media outlets that hadn’t been called out by Albert hastily deleted all their old stories about him.
Elnora couldn’t care less about any of it.
She woke up thinking about just one thing-the result of the pregnancy test she took earlier.
She wasn’t pregnant. That was it.
