Chapter 636 They Can’t Hold Back
By the time Elnora pulled up at the Campbell Group from Southview Residence, Reese’s assistant was already waiting downstairs, looking out for her arrival.
Spotting Elnora’s car, he quickly walked over and opened the door for her with practiced ease.
“Ms. Finley, Mrs. Campbell is waiting for you in her office,” he said.
Elnora gave a slight nod.
“Alright,” she responded, then lifted her wrist to check the time.
Meanwhile, Elara arrived at the entrance of the Campbell Group in a taxi.
As soon as the taxi came to a stop, she opened the door and walked over to Elnora with a bright smile.
“Ms. Finley, I’m not late, am I?” she asked.
Elnora shook her head and headed inside the Campbell Group.
Elara walked in with Elnora, but when they arrived at Reese’s office, Elnora stepped inside alone.
Elara was then led away by Reese’s assistant to start getting familiar with her new surroundings at the
company.
Reese was sitting at her desk, reviewing some paperwork.
As soon as Elnora walked in, Reese put aside her work and stood up.
“Glad you could make it,” Reese said.
Elnora nodded softly.
Reese immediately ushered Elnora over to the lounge area and offered her a seat.
Reese said, “There’s a shareholders’ meeting this afternoon, and I’ll introduce you to the shareholders.
“You’ve done an excellent job at Supernova Entertainment, especially with how you handled the issue at the branch office. Everyone really appreciates your work.”
As she spoke, Reese reached out to hold Elnora’s hand.
“Elnora, I hope you can establish yourself at the Campbell Group, so you can take over my position,” Reese said.
Her eyes were full of hope as she spoke.
Elnora looked into Reese’s hopeful eyes, then glanced down, feeling the weight of her emotions.
“Reese…” Elnora started.
But before she could finish, Reese said in a gentle voice, “Elnora, I know what’s on your mind.
“Don’t worry about it. Just think of this as a trial run. If it doesn’t go well, it’s really no big deal.
Elnora pressed her lips together and nodded softly.
Reese patted Elnora’s hand, her voice gentle. “Don’t stress yourself out. Albert’s actually pretty capable. If you ever step into my shoes, he’ll have your back.”
Elnora replied softly, “I think I’d rather help him out.”
Reese smiled. “Either way is fine.”
As they chatted, a staff member knocked on the door, so Reese got up and went back to her desk.
For the next stretch, Reese was caught up in company affairs.
Elnora took the initiative to lend a hand with whatever tasks she could manage, all while getting a feel for how the Campbell Group was running these days.
On the outside, the Campbell Group looked peaceful, but that was just a facade. Underneath, the scheming and power plays never really stopped.

And the company’s structure was a tangled web.
Reese’s maiden name was Reese Perkins.
Back in the day, the Campbell Group wasn’t nearly as big as it was now.
It only started to grow after the Campbell family took over the Perkins family’s assets.
So, the Campbell Group was split down the middle between the Campbells and the Perkins.
Among the shareholders, there were two camps: the Campbell family and the Perkins family.
When Albert’s father, Clayton Campbell, passed away, everyone thought he’d pass control to Albert or maybe. to one of his own trusted brothers.
But to everyone’s shock, Clayton handed the leadership over to Reese right in front of all the shareholders.
Before Clayton fell seriously ill, their marriage was really just a legal formality.
Whenever they saw each other, it always turned into an argument.
They were the classic adversarial couple-always at each other’s throats.
Yet, in the end, when Clayton was on his deathbed, he left everything to Reese, including the company. Suddenly, the Campbell family was left without its pillar.
All these years, Albert pretty much stayed out of the Campbell Group’s affairs.
People said Reese was raising Albert to be useless on purpose, just so the Campbells wouldn’t get their hands on the company again.
But Elnora didn’t see it that way.
Back when Reese and Clayton were busy building their empire, it was Albert’s uncle who spent the most time.
with him.
Albert was always loyal to his family and friends.
If he ever took over the Campbell Group, his uncle would end up calling all the shots from the shadows, like a puppet master pulling the strings.
That was probably why Albert kept his distance from the company all these years. He knew exactly what was
at stake.
All these years, holding that position at the top, Reese had a lot on her shoulders. It was never easy for her.
It wasn’t until lunchtime, when her assistant came to remind her, that Reese finally put her work aside.
Her assistant had been with her for decades.
Watching Elnora work alongside Reese, he felt like he was seeing a younger Reese all over again.
That was when he finally understood why Reese cared so much about her daughter-in-law.
She wasn’t just bringing in a daughter-in-law. She was finding the next successor for the Campbell Group, a successor, just like her.
Reese set down her papers and looked at Elnora, speaking softly. “I’ve made a reservation at a nearby restaurant. Come on, let’s go have lunch together.”
Elnora nodded, got up, and followed Reese out of the office.
They walked out of the office and arrived at the elevator.
As the elevator doors slid open, Reese was about to step inside when she spotted Albert leaning casually against the wall, with a playful arch of his brow as he looked at them.
“Where are you two off to?” he moved aside as he spoke. It was clear he was here for Elnora.
Reese stepped in, pressed the button for the first floor, and teased, “Well, fancy seeing you here. It’s a rare occasion to see Mr. Campbell actually show up at the Campbell Group.”
Elnora followed Reese into the elevator.

Albert straightened his suit and adopted a more formal posture.
“Just worried Ms. Finley and Mrs. Campbell might be overdoing it, so I thought I’d drop by and check on you,” he said with a playful grin.
Reese snorted, her tone icy. “If you really cared about me being tired, you’d have come over to the Campbell Group to help out ages ago.”
Albert just arched his brow and kept quiet.
Reese gave him a sideways look and started nagging him nonstop.
She went on about how Albert had spent all these years doing his own thing, never caring about how tough things were for her as his mom.
Albert just listened quietly, not saying a word in his own defense.
His gaze fell on Elnora’s back.
Ever since Elnora stepped into the elevator, she hadn’t even looked at him once.
Albert felt pretty upset about it.
Noticing her hand hanging naturally at her side, he reached out and gently took it in his.
Elnora felt Albert’s warm hand take hers, and she glanced down at his hand holding hers.
Her gaze grew subdued; she didn’t pull away, simply letting him keep holding her hand.
As Reese was talking, she noticed Albert couldn’t take his eyes off Elnora, and Elnora’s ears turned pink with embarrassment. Seeing that, Reese stopped nagging Albert.
With Elnora around, Reese was sure certain people couldn’t resist taking the bait-no way they’d just keep playing it cool and stay put at Supernova Entertainment.
