Chapter 640 Work Not Done
Chapter 640 Work Not Done
Albert was momentarily stunned by Elnora’s words.
He hadn’t expected that after waiting a whole week just to talk to her face-to-face, Elnora would turn up her nose at him for smelling bad.
Albert felt his pride take a hit.
He quickly checked himself for any odor.
Honestly, the smoke smell wasn’t even that strong.
“Go wash up,” Elnora said, her voice calm and indifferent.
Albert met her gaze, tossing out casually. “So what if I come out smelling like roses? Or is Ms. Finley in the mood to toy with me again tonight and wants me to keep her company in bed?”
Albert said all this with a playful smirk, but his feet were already heading toward his bedroom, clearly about to take a shower.
Elnora listened quietly for a moment, and just as Albert was about to turn away, she spoke up, her tone steady and unruffled. “So, Mr. Campbell, are you going to let me mess with you or not?”
Albert froze mid-step, his eyes locked onto Elnora, searching her face for any sign of emotion.
But Elnora’s gaze stayed unfazed, almost indifferent.
There wasn’t even a trace of playfulness in her expression.
Albert pressed his lips together and stepped right up to Elnora.
“Here,” he said. “Just afraid you might not want to play, Ms. Finley.”
As he leaned in, Elnora instinctively stepped back.
Her heel bumped against the doorframe, and Albert quickly wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close.
Elnora placed a hand on Albert’s chest, her brows furrowing slightly.
Albert caught the way she wrinkled her nose and immediately said, “I’ll go wash up right now.”
Elnora nodded. “Okay.”
Albert loosened his grip, reluctantly letting go of Elnora’s waist.
But then he thought, ‘I can hold her however I want tonight, so he slid his hand right back around her waist.
“Ms. Finley, you better not be messing with me,” Albert said, half teasing, half serious.
Elnora shook her head, her gaze steady and calm as she looked at Albert.
“Not messing with you,” Elnora replied.
With Elnora’s straight answer, Albert couldn’t hide his smile anymore.
He walked off to his room, grinning the whole way.
“I’m off to wash up,” he called out.
He kept glancing back every few steps, worried Elnora might suddenly change her mind.
Elnora nodded.
Albert hurried back to his bedroom, and as soon as he stepped inside, he pulled off his shirt and made a beeline for the bathroom.
His clothes were almost littered across the floor, from the entrance all the way to the bathroom.
Shirt, belt, pants-each piece dropped along the way.
After his shower, Albert gave himself a good sniff, making absolutely sure there was no smoke left. Just to be extra safe, he slathered on another round of body wash, determined to smell downright irresistible.

Once his hair was dry, Albert took a moment to style it in front of the mirror.
He’d originally planned to just wrap a towel around himself and head straight to Elnora’s room.
But as soon as he reached the door, he realized he was being way too eager and needed to play it cool.
So he went back to his room and put on his bathrobe.
After putting on the bathrobe, Albert felt he looked way too modest. He really wanted to let those muscles peek out from under the fabric.
He messed around for what felt like forever, never making it out of his room, and out of nowhere, nerves started creeping in.
A few minutes later, Albert forced himself to chill, took a deep breath, and at last opened his bedroom door.
Elnora’s bedroom door was still open.
Albert stepped inside, about to say something, but realized the room was empty. Elnora was nowhere to be
seen.
He paused, instantly thinking Elnora had ditched him.
He turned on his heel and walked out of her bedroom.
Just then, Belinda came upstairs to call Albert for dinner and caught sight of him storming out of Elnora’s bedroom in his bathrobe, looking furious.
Belinda froze for a second, then asked, “What’s wrong, Mr. Campbell?”
Albert took a deep breath, shooting Belinda a frosty look.
“Where’s Ms. Finley?” he asked.
Belinda looked puzzled and replied, “Ms. Finley is waiting for you downstairs for dinner. She noticed you hadn’ t come down yet, so she asked me to come up and get you.”
Belinda had no idea what Elnora could’ve possibly done to get Albert so riled up.
Honestly, these two hadn’t even seen each other for almost a week, let alone had a chance to spend any real time together.
They finally got a rare chance to hang out, and now it seemed like things were gonna end badly all over again.
Belinda just couldn’t figure it out.
It was like all that lovey-dovey stuff from a week ago was just something she made up in her head.
When Albert heard Elnora was waiting for him downstairs, the anger bubbling inside him slowly faded. He nodded, still a bit sulky, and made his way downstairs.
Elnora was sitting quietly at the dining table. When she heard footsteps, she looked up at the stairs.
Albert came down in his bathrobe, his eyes fixed on her like he was worried she might bolt.
Elnora looked as calm as ever, only starting to eat once Albert took his seat.
Albert’s appetite was off tonight.
He barely touched his food.
Noticing his eyes glued to her, Elnora decided to break the strange tension.
“Not feeling the food tonight?” she asked. “You haven’t even picked up your fork.”
Albert shot Elnora a smoldering look and flashed a mischievous grin.
“Can’t eat too much-got some ‘exercise’ coming up later,” he said.
Elnora was speechless.
Albert set his fork down, resting one arm on the table as he watched Elnora eat, clearly entertained.
With him staring at her like that, Elnora totally lost her appetite.

When Albert saw Elnora put her fork down, he raised an eyebrow and quickly said, “Go ahead, eat. I can wait,” his tone playful.
With Albert’s intense gaze fixed on her, there was no way Elnora could get a bite down.
“I’m full,” Elnora said.
Albert reached over, grabbed a napkin, and handed it to her.
Elnora took it, wiped the corner of her mouth, and stood up from her seat.
Albert saw Elnora get up and followed suit.
Elnora paused, glanced at her watch, and said calmly, “I still have some work I need to deal with…”
Albert cut her off before she could finish. “Ms. Finley, are you trying to stand me up?”
His face was dead serious.
Elnora met his gaze, a hint of exasperation flickering in her eyes.
She knew that if she really ditched Albert tonight, things between them would get way worse.
“No,” Elnora replied.
Albert frowned, staring at Elnora for what felt like forever before finally nodding.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you upstairs, Ms. Finley. Don’t bail on me,” Albert said.
Elnora nodded.
Albert gave Elnora a long, meaningful look before heading upstairs in a hurry.
Elnora watched Albert rush upstairs, let out a quiet sigh, and made her way to the study.
Truth was, she still had work she needed to finish.
