Chapter 644 People Admire the Strong

Albert frowned when he heard what Wilbur said. He shot a sideways glance at Elnora, who stood quietly next to him, looking totally unfazed, like Wilbur wasn’t even talking about her. Her face was blank, showing no emotion at all.

Albert let out a heavy sigh and headed for Reese’s office door.

“Wilbur,” Albert interrupted Wilbur, his face showing no warmth.

Wilbur turned around and saw Albert standing at the entrance to Reese’s office.

Wilbur quickly spoke up. “Albert, you’re just in time.

“The Campbell Group is yours. You should’ve taken over ages ago. Your mother’s getting up there. She should just retire and take it easy at home.”

He said it without a second thought for Reese’s feelings.

Reese’s eyes went cold as she sat in her chair, staring at Wilbur with a frosty gaze.

She shot back, “Wilbur, we’re about the same age. If you think I’m old enough to retire, then so are you.

“If you want to take a break, just say so. No need for all the hints. Submit your resignation, and I’ll sign off immediately.”

Wilbur’s expression shifted slightly.

Reese’s gaze was ice-cold. “It’s not your place to make decisions at the Campbell Group.”

“Wilbur, your brother gave you those shares to make sure you had a safety net-not so you could come here and dictate how things are run.

“The only reason this company is still called the Campbell Group is out of respect for your brother. If I wanted, I could change the name anytime.”

Wilbur’s face darkened instantly. He glared at Reese, his voice sharp with anger.

“Reese, so you finally said what you’ve really been thinking. All these years, you’ve just wanted to make the Campbell Group yours,” he snapped.

Reese let out a cold, mocking laugh.

“What do you mean, ‘make it mine’?” she shot back. “What I own is mine. Wilbur, you really shouldn’t be so possessive about other people’s property.”

Wilbur was completely shut down by Reese’s comeback. He struggled for words, then turned to Albert and barked, “Albert, say something.

“The Campbell Group was your father’s life’s work. It can’t fall into the hands of someone outside the family. You…”

Albert cut him off before he could finish, “Wilbur, I trust my mother’s decisions.

“Elnora’s a top-notch talent. I have zero doubts about her stepping up as CEO of the Campbell Group.”

Albert’s response really got under Wilbur’s skin. He had to take several deep breaths just to steady himself.

“Albert, you’re just… a lost cause,” Wilbur snapped.

Reese’s expression turned icy as she snapped back.

Reese retorted, “Wilbur, you’re the least qualified person here to call Albert a lost cause.

“When your brother was alive, how did he prop you up? How many companies did you launch, and how many crashed and burned?

“In the end, you had no other option but to crawl back to the Campbell Group, just to have a stable job and keep food on the table.

“As for Albert, I never laid out a path for him like your brother did for you. Even so, Starlight Entertainment

may not be the industry leader, but it’s definitely ranked among the top in its field.

“So, what exactly have you accomplished?”

Wilbur’s face went dark, completely shut down by Reese’s words.

He shot Albert a frosty glare, then stormed out of Reese’s office, refusing to let it go.

When he reached the doorway, he saw Elnora waiting outside. He gave a low grunt and hurried past her

Elnora didn’t even blink at his attitude.

She’d known from the very beginning that Wilbur had no love for her.

On her wedding day with Albert, after he left, nobody dared bring up Albert leaving-not with Reese around.

But Wilbur was the only one who went out of his way to embarrass her.

After Wilbur left, Reese let out a heavy sigh, her face still clouded with displeasure.

She shot Albert a look, wanting to tell him to keep his distance from Wilbur, but the words died on her lips.

After all, Wilbur was still family to Albert.

“What brings you here today?” Reese asked, changing the subject.

Albert glanced at Reese, noticing she looked a bit tired, and spoke in a calm voice.

“I was just thinking… maybe I should come help you out at the company,” he said.

Reese let out a dry laugh. “Did you really fall for your uncle’s words?”

Albert raised an eyebrow and grinned.

“Believe what he said? If you hand the company over to Elnora, she’s my wife. So what? Either way, it’s still our family’s business,” Albert said. “I just hate seeing you so worn out.”

Reese’s lips curled into a smile. “Getting married really does change a man.

“Back when I was busting my ass to keep the company afloat, you never once offered to help. You’ve only been married for half a year, and now you’re suddenly all thoughtful.”

Albert grinned. “Guess I should thank Mom for picking out such a good wife for me.”

Reese chuckled and said, “You really know how to sweet-talk. If you really want to come work at the Campbell Group, then start by teaming up with Elnora.

“Elnora’s got a lot going on lately. If you two team up, it’ll put my mind at ease-and she won’t be so overwhelmed.”

Albert didn’t even need to think about it and agreed instantly.

“No problem,” he replied.

That way, he’d get to spend more time with Elnora.

“If I’m helping Elnora out, does that mean I’ll be working right alongside her in the Campbell office? Albert asked.

Reese glanced up at Albert, catching on to what he was thinking. She spoke with a resigned tone

“Since you’re going to be Elnora’s assistant, let her decide where your office will be,” Reese said.

Hearing Reese’s words, Elnora stepped into Reese’s office.

She was about to refuse.

She could handle her workload just fine on her own.

But seeing Reese genuinely happy about Albert volunteering to help out and get up to speed with the business, Elnora couldn’t bring herself to refuse. Instead, she replied softly.

“I’ll have procurement add another desk to my office this afternoon,” Elnora said.

Albert was genuinely surprised that Elnora didn’t turn him down. A spark of joy lit up his eyes.

He could feel Elnora was making an effort to get closer to him.

It felt like a whole garden of flowers just exploded in his heart.

When Elnora noticed Albert’s warm, passionate gaze fixed on her, she felt a bit awkward and shifted her eyes

away.

Reese could easily see that Albert was completely smitten with Elnora.

A faint smile played at her lips, and her gaze toward Elnora grew even more approving.

Everyone admired those who were strong.

Reese always knew her son would set his sights on the best.
